A man’s reward for 40 years of service has raised some eyebrows.
Last year, Kevin Parsons celebrated four decades of working at Guernsey’s Alliance supermarket. Kevin started working at the business in 1984 and last year he celebrated 40 years of service.
To mark the affair, Kevin, who wasn’t retiring despite reaching the impressive milestone, was gifted with 40 sausage rolls – one for each year working at Alliance. He wasn’t given them all at once though but was allowed to have one free sausage roll over his next 40 shifts, BBC News reported.
Alongside his beloved sausage rolls, Kevin received certificate and a tropical-themed mural for his home, as well as an in-store ceremony with his peers.
Kevin said he was made to feel like an ‘Alliance celebrity‘ and said that ‘words can’t express my appreciation’ for his gifts.

Also speaking at the time, Chris Fish, the chairman of Alliance, hailed Kevin as being ‘exemplary all the time’.
He continued to gush about his longstanding employee: “He will always turn his hand and help you out. He does a lot for the community and raises a lot of money for charity, which is very valuable.”
While Kevin was pretty pleased with the gifts he received, it seems people online were less impressed. Taking to Reddit, one person sarcastically said: “Companies these days really know how to say thank you.”
In a similar tone, a second wrote: “Thanks for giving up 85,000 hours of your life, (8 hour shift, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year, 40 years) here is £25 worth of products we had you prepare earlier.”
“What an insult. Loyalty certainly does not pay,” fumed somebody else, as others branded it as ‘tragic’, ’embarrassing’ and ‘sad’.
Others were less critical though. One Reddit user wrote: “40 sausage rolls? I’d be rich!”
A different person added: “One would hope and expect that if you read the article the tropical mural at home is a gift he requested and the sausage rolls are just a ‘funny’ side gift.”
A third suggested that since Alliance isn’t a huge supermarket like Tesco or Walmart that maybe the company couldn’t afford to give Kevin a series of lavish gifts like when Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan retired last year.
He was reportedly gifted with a PlayStation 5 that looked like a classic PlayStation 1, leaving gaming fanatics green with envy.

Elon Musk has highlighted comments made by Donald Trump on social media about Taylor Swift ‘no longer’ being ‘hot’.
It’s not like Donald Trump and Elon Musk have anything better to do, right? Not like one is supposed to be running the country and the other overseeing Twitter alongside advising said president of the US.
Instead, it seems the pair have been directing their keyboard warrior fury towards none other than pop star Taylor Swift.
Whether it be in 2018 when Trump said he liked Swift’s music ’25 percent less’ after she showed support for the Democrats, earlier this year when Trump highlighted Swift getting ‘booed out of’ the stadium after a Chiefs game, or yet another jab made about her Super Bowl appearance.
It appears Trump isn’t finished there, now taking aim at Swift’s appearance.

In a post to Truth Social on May 16, Trump said: “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?'”
A Twitter account titled Autism Capital later shared a screenshot of the post to the platform, adding: “Trump woke up today and said ‘You know what it’s been a while since I blasted Taylor Swift.'”
Another account then shared a photograph of Swift performing on stage alongside a ‘Pepe the Frog’ meme edited into the image holding a ruler by Swift’s bottom.
And who should respond? Why, Kekius Maximus of course, AKA Elon Musk – adding a laughing emoji.
And it’s not taken long for people to slam Musk for his response to the post.

One Reddit user accused Musk of ‘body-shaming’ the singer.
A second added: “They need to leave her the f**k alone what’s their obsession with her.”
A third theorized the reason Trump and Musk are so ‘obsessed’ with Swift is because ‘she’s their class peer as a billionaire and they hate it’.
And someone else wrote: “Same guy who threatened to put a baby in her last year? Dude is disgusting.”
Indeed, it’s not the first time Musk has brought up Swift either.

What do you make of that, eh Elon? (Andrew Harnik/Getty Images)
When Trump went head-to-head with Kamala Harris to become the 47th President of the US, Swift weighed in online with where she’d be casting her vote.
Swift took to Instagram to state her support for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, explaining that an AI image of her seemingly endorsing Trump had supported her decision for transparency.
She said: “It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
At the end of the statement, she signed ‘childless cat lady’ below her name, referencing JD Vance’s remarks about prominent Democrats being a ‘bunch of childless cat ladies’.
And in a bizarre turn of events, Musk then took to Twitter to respond: “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
Oh, and Musk hasn’t stopped there either.

After being accused of doing a ‘Nazi salute’ while at Trump’s inauguration ceremony, Musk seemingly saw it as yet another opportunity to mention Swift.
Musk later shared a picture of Adolf Hitler performing a Nazi salute alongside a shot of Swift with her arm raised.
On Reddit, a post included footage of Swift from the supposed incident in 2014, showing she’s actually blowing a kiss to the crowd…

Dogs are forever, not just for Christmas: this is a saying we’ve all heard at one point in our lives, but singer Lily Allen didn’t get the memo.
When you adopt a little fuzzy friend, it can be hard to adjust your life around their needs and also remember that those little teeth like to chew.
From cables to rugs, puppies are a nightmare to your home for the first few weeks until they become more aware of what they can and can’t do.
However, there was one thing this pooch did which was the last straw for the Smile singer.
When Allen brought home a puppy for her kids, Ethel, 13 and Marnie, 11, during the COVID pandemic, she probably thought the dog would be with them for life.

That was until Mary (the pup) chewed up her passports, which led to dire consequences.
The singer then decided it was time to send Mary to an adoption shelter, which led animal charity, PETA, to lose it on her and send her a savage gift in response.
The 39-year-old was quick to receive a letter from the organization and a little toy.
How bad can a toy be, right?
Wrong.
It was a mechanical dog toy with the accompanying words from Elisa Allen at the charity who wrote: “It really is the only animal you should bring into your home. Dogs should never be treated as accessories to be discarded when they become inconvenient.”
Allen, who lives in New York with Stranger Things star David Harbour, 49, and her kids discussed the events leading up to ditching the dog on the Miss Me? podcast.
The singer told her friend and the Miquita Oliver: “She was a very badly behaved dog and I tried very hard with her but it just didn’t work out and the passports were the straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak.”

In the August 22 episode, she had brought the dog home ‘but then it ate my passport, and so I took her back to the home.’
She explained: “She ate all 3 of our passports, and they had our visas in. And I cannot tell you how much money it cost me to get everything replaced because it was in COVID. And so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare.”
There was also the issue that her children’s father Sam Cooper, Allen’s ex-husband, lives in England and it meant that the kids couldn’t see their dad for months because the ‘f***ing dog had eaten the passports.’
That’s when Allen told the pup, ‘You ruined my life,’ and was adamant that the dog was ‘very badly behaved’ and ‘t just didn’t work out.’
The kicker, however, was that Allen is still attempting to adopt another dog and hopes to bring home a Chihuahua mix soon for her kids, who have already picked out the name Jude Bellingham for the upcoming addition to the family.
In response to Allen trying to bring home another dog, PETA’s Vice President Allen wrote in her letter: “While you could get new passports and rebook your flights, Mary may spend many months in the shelter waiting for a new family – if she’s lucky enough to find one at all.
“Anyone who knows and loves dogs understands that it’s likely a dog will at some point, chew up something in the home. Dogs often explore the world by putting things in their mouths – it’s natural.
“Lily could have put her important documents in a drawer.
“Dogs are loyal companions who deserve the same unwavering love and commitment they offer us. It’s for this reason that we beg lily please, not to get another dog.
“Instead, we’ve sent lily a mechanical toy puppy which requires none of the care, patience, or commitment that a real one does.”

The CEO of Costco has opened up about a moment which made sure that one well-known deal at the company would stay the same.
If you’ve been to Costco, you’ll probably be familiar with the popular offer to get a hotdog and a soda for $1.50.

Costco first introduced the deal at food courts in its outlets back in 1985 and it remains a staple of the business.
While it was a good deal when it was first introduced, part of what has made the combo so appealing is the fact that 40 years later the price is still the same.
The hot dog is a quarter pounder, or 110 grams, and a 20oz soda, or 590ml.
Not bad for $1.50!
The deal has even developed something of a cult following, with people even making t-shirts celebrating it.
If the deal had risen in line with inflation, then it would cost around $4.40 today, but Costco has gone to extreme lengths to keep the price stable.

In fact, Costco President and CEO Craig Jelinek recalled that the price was of phenomenal importance to founder Jim Sinegal.
At a presentation in 2018 reported by 425 Business, he said: “I came to [Jim Sinegal] once and I said, ‘Jim, we can’t sell this hot dog for a buck fifty. We are losing our rear ends.’
“And he said, ‘If you raise the effing hot dog, I will kill you. Figure it out.’”
That’s pretty clear!”
Jelinek added: “That’s all I really needed. By the way, if you raised [the price] to $1.75, it would not be that big of a deal. People would still buy [it]. But it’s the mindset that when you think of Costco, you think of the $1.50 hot dog.”
Aware of the importance of strong branding and the association of the deal, Costco has taken incredible measures to keep the price of its hotdogs down.

This involved the US company actually building and running their own hot dog plant so they could get the wieners at cost rather than having to pay markup to a contractor.
Jelinek said: “By having the discipline to say, ‘You are not going to be able to raise your price. You have to figure it out,’ we took it over and started manufacturing our hot dogs. We keep it at $1.50 and make enough money to get a fair return.”
And this wasn’t the only time that Sinegal invoked death in the price of the combo, except the other time it was his own death rather than someone else’s.
In 2009, he was asked by the Seattle Times what it would mean if the price of the hot dog combo ever went up.
Sinegal replied simply: “That I’m dead.”

It’s certainly not uncommon to refer to your best pal as a brother.
While they may not be blood-related, the support they have provided you over the years sees them classified in that family category.
Alan Robinson and Walter Macfarlane met in sixth grade and quickly became best mates.
Growing up in Honolulu, Hawaii, the pair played high-school football together.
Their strong bond continued after they fished education, to the point where they were Uncle Walter and Uncle Alan to each other’s kids, as per Reader’s Digest.
Both of them had one very strong similarity: they were both put up for adoption when they were younger and had no idea about parts of their biological family.
Walter, a retired math and physical education teacher, knew that he had a complicated family tree.
His mother had been young when she had him during World War II, and it was concluded that she couldn’t raise him on his own.
So, the family decided that his grandmother was to act as his mother and his biological mother was his sister.

Walter didn’t learn the truth until he graduated from high school, though he remained clueless about his father.
In 2016, Walter’s daughter, Cindy Macfarlane-Flores, suggested her father try a DNA-testing kit.
Cindy noticed a user named Robby737 and that her dad shared enough DNA to be half siblings after using Ancestry.com.
Well, that rang a bell to many, as Alan’s nickname was Robby, and he used to fly 737s for Aloha Airlines.
Surely not?
Well, you can see where this story is heading.
The two friends then spoke on the phone, with Alan confirming he was Robby737.
Walter and Alan remarkably discovered they shared the same birth mother after an extraordinary phone call.

“It was a shock,” Walter told KHON2.
“Yeah it was shock, definitely and then we thought about it and compared forearms,” Alan added.
He continued: “It was an overwhelming experience, it’s still overwhelming. I don’t know how long it’s going to take for me to get over this feeling.”
To add to the extra special feeling, the pair discovered their news during the Holiday season.
“This is the best Christmas present I could ever imagine having,” Alan said.
While Cindy, who arguably played the biggest role in helping the pair discover they are brothers, quipped: “It really is a Christmas miracle, and we’re just so happy that we found it.”
