People are saying scene from classic franchise is ‘the most satisfying defeat of a bad guy in movie history’

Fans have been saying one scene particular cemented this film franchise as one of the best ever, and it is easy to understand why.

Film fans are often engaged in heated debate online about what makes a good death scene, and one Twitter user is pretty confident in their choice for one of the best ever.

Over the weekend, the Twitter user asked a simple question: “What’s the most satisfying defeat of a bad guy in movie history?” and as you can imagine, comments started flooding in with suggestions.

But one suggestion has certainly had a lot of people agreeing and its from one of the most beloved and profitable franchises ever, The Pirates of the Caribbean.

Now, there are a whole host of great action and comedic scenes throughout the films but it seems many agree that the demise of Lord Cutler Becket, played by Tom Hollander, is up there with the best of them.

For those that can’t remember the third film, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, the conclusion focusses on a massive stand off between the East India Trading Company and any surviving pirates.

Beckett, the chairman of the EITC, is more than a little confident and is expecting a ruthless and easy victory, only to fail at the final hurdle and be killed.

Beckett’s ship, the Endeavour, is destroyed as it is fired on both sides by the Captain Jack Sparrow-led Black Pearl and William Turner-led Flying Dutchman in a wild and chaotic end.

The reason this scene proved so iconic for fans was Beckett’s, face of pure disbelief and shock as he walked through the deck of his exploding vessel.

One Twitter user perfectly encapsulated the charm the scene had and commented: “That’s what makes his death satisfying imo. He has the ‘big guns’ & should have the advantage but ultimately his pride is his undoing.”

“He viewed himself as untouchable & always had others do his dirty work for him so when the time came and he has to face actual danger, he freezes.”

Another social media user added: “This scene is, up to this day, still one of the best scene in any movie. The sheer amount of VFX needed to make this scene happen is insane.”

And a third wrote: “God this scene is so well done. The stairs blowing up piece by piece behind him blew my mind seeing this as a kid.”

People are saying this 'legendary' series has the 'best ensemble cast in history'

People are saying this ‘legendary’ series has the ‘best ensemble cast in history’

Discussions online about the best ensemble casts in TV led many to name one show in particular

Dylan Murray

What if we told you there was a little known TV series which has one of the best casts of all time?

The question of which TV series had ‘the best ensemble cast in history’ was recently posed on X, and hundreds of people went on to name their favorites.

And while classics like Grey’s Anatomy, Euphoria and The Big Bang Theory all got namedropped, so did a lesser known animated show.

And its voice cast is absolutely stacked.

With Regina King heading up the starry line-up playing the dual lead roles of two brothers, it also stars John Witherspoon, Gary Anthony Williams and Cedric Yarbrough in supporting parts.

But the cast list gets a lot starrier when you look at the celebs who have cameoed on the show.

Stars who’ve appeared on the show include (deep breath) Lil Wayne, Snoop DoggSamuel L Jackson, Ed Asner, Terry Crews, Michael B Jordan, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Bill Maher and Busta Rhymes.

Now you have to admit, that’s a lot of star power.

The show, The Boondocks, comes from Adult Swim, the same folks who brought us Rick and Morty.

It follows a Black American family, the Freemans, who move into the predominantly white neighborhood of Woodcrest.

The show touched on all sorts of real-world topics, such as the election of Barack Obama and (controversially) the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

Meanwhile, the animation style was heavily influenced by Japanese anime.

It ran for four seasons from 2005 to 2014, with attempts at a reboot sadly stalling a couple of years back.

A decade after the animated show went off the air, fans are still calling the ensemble cast one of the best ever.

The Boondocks cast was absolutely legendary,” one user wrote.

“One of the best animation casts of all time,” another said.

A third wrote: “Regina King hardly gets the recognition she deserves for voicing both Huey and Riley.”

Critical reaction to the show has been mixed, with it only boasting a 48 percent critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

But it definitely has its admirers, with IndieWire’s Liz Shannon Miller writing: “The Boondocks took a lot of big swings worth admiring, and in the realm of animation represented a very, very underheard point-of-view.”

Meanwhile, Alessandra Stanley wrote for the New York Times: “There are very few series for young adults that deal with race as brazenly and defiantly as The Boondocks.”

You can watch all four seasons on HBO Max.

People are saying forgotten Kate Winslet drama is the 'best movie they've ever watched'

People are saying forgotten Kate Winslet drama is the ‘best movie they’ve ever watched’

The 2013 film stars Winslet and Josh Brolin

Fans of a movie Kate Winslet did over a decade ago is regaining popularity as people are claiming it’s the ‘best movie they’ve ever watched’.

There are just some golden oldies that you can’t help but revisit, or watch for the first time after somehow missing out on the hype surrounding the gem – this is exactly the case of this forgotten 2013 movie.

Starring the one and only Kate Winslet, the flick is one that will make you laugh, cry and sit on the edge of your seat as you try to piece together just what’s about to happen in the scene.

You may already know what movie this is, but if you’ve got no idea, be prepared to add it to your watchlist.

Based on the novel by Joyce Maynard, the plot is centered around ‘depressed single mom Adele (Winslet) and her son Henry’ who go on to ‘offer a wounded, fearsome man a ride’ as they are essentially forced to do so in a grocery store, as they become entangled in his past.

It really is a golden film, which also stars Josh Brolin as the mystery man and Tobey Maguire as an older Henry.

That’s because Labor Day is a film you’ll never forget.

It’s a great film which takes you on a journey through an unlikely scenario which ultimately proves that Winslet has the most range of any actress ever, and clearly fans think the same thing too.

Taking to Netflix Banger’s Facebook page, one fan shared: “The best movie I’ve ever watched.”

A second wrote: “I cried so much to this, great film,” while someone else said: “I agree. Probably her best movie; her acting skills were well displayed!.”

Another commented: “I loved this movie!! Good watch.”

However, while fans seemingly love it, critics were not too shabby on Rotten Tomatoes as they only gave it a measly 34 percent. Yikes.

Maynard later wrote an article about her thoughts on the adaptation, and it’s safe to assume that she gave it the thumbs up.

She wrote: “I’ve been asked a lot, since the recent release of Labor Day, how the film compares for me with my novel. Not surprisingly, the director and screenwriter of a two-hour film that tells a story I took over 200 pages to tell, in novel form, will have to leave some parts out – and Jason did.

“But for me, the experience of settling myself into a seat in a screening room, as I did for the first time about six months ago to see the first cut of Labor Day, was a richly gratifying experience. At several parts in the film (that first time I saw it, and twice after) I found myself weeping as I watched it.

“Partly this was because (as well as I knew the story) I found myself moved by it all over again.

“Most of all, though, as a writer, I felt moved that a the ensemble of director, cast, cinematographer, set decorator… and the entire crew of a few hundred responsible for bringing the film to life – had succeeded in bringing concrete life to characters and places, a situation, and a series of events, that had until then existed only in my brain, and then on the page.”

Jennifer Lopez fans are flocking to social media in praise of her latest performance in a new Netflix sci-fi thriller.

While some viewers have been left heavily divided by J Lo’s latest film, others have swooned online, blown away by her performance in the action movie.

Cast, crew and synopsis

The film was written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Colette and directed by Brad Peyton.

And as well as starring the one and only J Lo, its cast also includes Simu Liu (best known for Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and, of course, Barbie) and Mark Strong (The King’s Man and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy).

The story centres around a government analyst named Atlas (Lopez) who is forced to confront her hatred and distrust of artificial intelligence when her mission into outer space searching for a robot goes awry.

Reactions

Despite some viewers being left very divided over Atlas and it achieving a pretty abysmal rating on Rotten Tomatoes – with an audience score of a sad-looking 54 percent and an even more tragic critics’ score of just 17 – J Lo fans are coming out in force to defend her latest release.

A user took to LADbible Facebook group Netflix Bangers to rate Atlas a strong nine out of 10.

Another user quickly responded: “Easily her best role, I actually enjoyed her acting… She did well…”

And the praise for J Lo has spilled over onto X too.

One viewer even thinks it's Lopez's 'best role' yet (Netflix)

One user wrote: “We just watched Jennifer Lopez’s Atlas movie on Netflix. Definitely out of her norm in the best way possible. (I LOVE Rom Coms).

“Great mixture of brains, heart and bad a**. Looking forward to seeing @JLo play more parts like this!!!”

Another added: “One thing about Jennifer Lopez…she is going to act her ass off each and every time! We watched Atlas twice already, 10/10. Loved the Reunion with Smith at the end.”

And a third resolved: “To the surprise of no one, Atlas is number one in over 70 countries. The new Jennifer Lopez film adds to her year of number one hit movies and iconic filmography. The haters are crying right now.”

Indeed, despite the criticism the movie has faced, Flix Patrol reports as of today (May 28), Atlas actually is the number one film on Netflix with Ice Age: Collision Course, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, In Good Hands 2 and Mother of the Bride, the other titles to make the top five.

Steve Carell credited for his 'dedication' after people find out the back story to notable scene in classic movie

Carell put his body through the ringer for the iconic scene

Social media users are praising Steve Carell for his dedication to nailing a scene in one of his most iconic movies.

From losing insane amounts of weight to performing incredibly dangerous stunts, actors really put their bodies through the ringer for their art.

And Steve Carell is no exception.

In 2005, Craell starred as Andy Stitzer in R-rated comedy The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

When the hapless electronics store employee accidentally lets slip to his co-workers that he’s still a virgin, they embark on a mission to help him get laid.

In one scene, Andy’s co-workers David (Paul Rudd), Jay (Romany Malco) and Cal (Seth Rogen) suggest that he gets his chest waxed.

This results in Andy unleashing a stream of expletives – and Kelly Clarkson’s name – as clumps of hair are savagely ripped from his chest.

It’s probably the movie’s most iconic moment and its back story makes it even funnier.

In order to get a 'genuine reaction,' Steve Carrell had his chest waxed for real while filming The 40-Year-Old Virgin (Universal Pictures)

You see, in order to get a ‘genuine reaction’ to the painful grooming treatment, Carell decided to actually get his chest waxed on camera.

His screams of pain were all 100 percent real, as were the hilarious reactions of his co-stars – Rudd giggling, Rogen cringing and Malco having to leave the room.

In an interview on The Graham Norton Show in 2013, he said: “I thought it would be funny for the guys watching it in the scene because there’s no way you can replicate the horror and the joy of watching a man go through that.”

And fans of the movie are loving the actor’s dedication.

After a clip of the infamous scene was posted on X (formerly Twitter), one person wrote: “This is cinema.”

Another said: “I feel for him. Dedication to the max! It had to be filmed in one shot, because he wanted to have it real.”

And a third commented: “I can’t imagine the pain.”

But, it turns out the pain Carell was in during filming was far worse than even he’d imagined.

When auditioning for the movie, Miki Mia – the actress who played the waxing lady – assured the casting department that she had previous waxing experience.

But this wasn’t exactly true.

Further into the 2013 interview, Carell revealed that her inexperience meant she didn’t apply a protective layer of Vaseline to his nipples before waxing.

Apparently, if you don’t do this, the nipple can actually be ripped off!

And, if the genuine screams of pain weren’t enough proof that he was suffering, tiny specks of blood and bright red skin show just how rough it got.

Carell can only be glad that a producer stopped Mia before he ended up losing a nipple in the name of a few laughs.
