Bill Gates admits his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein was a ‘huge mistake’

Microsoft founder Bill Gates has admitted he feels ‘foolish’ for spending time with Jeffrey Epstein.

Convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein – who died by suicide in prison aged 66 in August 2019 – attempted to blackmail the Microsoft founder over an alleged intimate relationship with a Russian bridge player, a report by the Wall Street Journal revealed in 2023.

In 2013, it’s reported Epstein – who was awaiting trial on federal conspiracy and sex trafficking charges at the time of his death – tried to strong-arm Gates to invest in a multi-billion-dollar charitable fund.

When Gates refused, Epstein allegedly tried to use his knowledge of Gates’ 2010 affair with a Russian woman named Mila Antonova.

A spokesperson for Gates told PEOPLE at the time: “Mr. Gates met with Epstein solely for philanthropic purposes. Having failed repeatedly to draw Mr. Gates beyond these matters, Epstein tried unsuccessfully to leverage a past relationship to threaten Mr. Gates.

“Mr. Gates never had any financial dealings with Epstein. As Bill has said before, it was a mistake to have ever met him.”

And in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Gates has since doubled down on his comments, noting ‘in retrospect’ it was ‘foolish to spend any time with him,’ opening about why he even associated with Epstein the first place.

Gates met with Epstein on multiple occasions, The New York Times reporting on at least three taking place at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse beginning in 2011.

In an interview published on January 24 and shared to YouTube, Gates explained: “He sort of got time with various people by spending time with other people.

“So yes, I think I was quite stupid. I thought it would help me with global health philanthropy. In fact, it failed to do that and it was just a huge mistake.”

In a 2011 email to colleagues, Gates is reported as writing about Epstein: “His lifestyle is very different and kind of intriguing although it would not work for me.”

A spokesperson for Gates later noted he was ‘in no way’ saying so in a way to ‘convey a sense of interest or approval,’ but was ‘referring only to the unique décor of the Epstein residence – and Epstein’s habit of spontaneously bringing acquaintances in to meet Mr Gates’.

When asked if the experience has made him ‘more wary of connections,’ Gates resolved: “Definitely. I mean are you kidding?”

And it’s not the only reflection Gates has been doing on his past, noting he ‘hopes as you get older, you’re more reflective and you have wisdom’.

Bill Gates Explains How He Split His Wealth With Wife Melinda Following Divorce

Bill Gates Explains How He Split His Wealth With Wife Melinda Following Divorce

Bill and Melinda Gates were estimated to be worth around $148 billion when they announced their split and had no prenup

Bill Gates has opened up about how he and his ex-wife Melinda divided their wealth following their divorce.

After 27 years of marriage, Bill and Melinda announced their separation in May last year to widespread surprise.

The couple’s net worth was estimated to be around $148 billion (£118bn) when they announced their split, and with no prenuptial agreement in place, dividing up their assets could easily have become acrimonious.

In a candid new interview with the Sunday Times, the Microsoft co-founder opened up about how they divvied up their wealth.

He said: “We spent some time coming up with a fair settlement that we both signed. But neither of us was facing any real reduction in our consumption.”

Discussions mostly focused on the amount of cash each could keep for their charitable donations.

He continued: “It was more about, OK, I’ll have x billion to give away, you’ll have y billion to give away. It was about the causes.”

When asked if there was anything he insisted on keeping for himself, he simply said: “I have a super nice house.”

He added: “She got the dog. She just killed me with that. No, I’m kidding. The world should know how mistreated I was.

“No, I’m kidding. We weren’t mean to each other.”

Melinda recently told CBS broadcaster Gayle King that she no longer considers Bill her friend.

She said: “We certainly have a working relationship. We are friendly at this point. Friends is a different word for me. That might come over time but for me there is still healing that needs to happen.

“I wish him well. I certainly don’t wish him any harm.”

Bill Gates revealed Melinda is keeping the dog.

When asked if he would consider Melinda his friend, Bill responded: “I would say that. In an interview she chose not to use that word, but I’ll use it.

“We have a, you know, super important, complex, close relationship where we’ve chosen to work together.”

Gates also responded to Melinda’s criticism that he held meetings with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who Melinda described as ‘abhorrent, evil personified’, adding that she had nightmares after meeting him.

Epstein attended Gates’ fundraising dinners on multiple occasions beginning in 2013, after the former had been convicted for soliciting prostitution from a minor.

Gates said of the meetings: “At the time, I didn’t realise that by having those meetings it would be seen as giving him credibility. You’re almost saying, ‘I forgive that type of behaviour,’ or something.

“So clearly the way it’s seen, I made a huge mistake not understanding that.”

Kate Winslet admits Titanic kiss with Leonardo DiCaprio was a 'nightmare'

Kate Winslet admits Titanic kiss with Leonardo DiCaprio was a ‘nightmare’

Kate Winslet has revealed why kissing Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic was ‘not all it’s cracked up to be’

Poppy Bilderbeck

Kate Winslet has revealed that iconic scene with Leonardo DiCaprio at the bow of the boat in Titanic wasn’t all quite as it seemed, branding it a ‘nightmare’ to shoot.

We all know what I’m talking about – that goose-pimpling moment where Jack (DiCaprio) is standing at the front of the Titanic, Rose (Winslet) comes to join him and they look out into the horizon, bringing their arms up together, lacing fingers and going in for a smooch – looking like they’ve just fully fallen in love right that instant.

However, the moment wasn’t quite as romantic as it all seemed, Winslet has since explained.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Winslet watched back the iconic moment from the 1997 release.

She says: “Now this was a nightmare shooting this, because Leo couldn’t stop laughing and we had to re-shoot this about four times because the light, the light was – Jim [director James Cameron] wanted a very specific light for this, obviously, and the sunsets kept changing where we were.

“This was a section of the ship, it wasn’t part of the actual whole ship set that we had, it was a little sort of sawn off bit. We had to climb up a ladder to get to that, I remember, hair and make-up couldn’t reach us.”

And this is where more obstacles arose in filming the scene which Winslet notes many ‘wouldn’t know’ about – but thankfully the actor goes on to reveal all.

She explains despite Leo ‘looking completely natural’ in the scene, he actually ‘had to lie on sun beds’ and there was ‘a lot of fake tan make-up going on’.

So, within her costume, Winslet had DiCaprio’s makeup, ‘brushes and sponge’ alongside her own make-up brushes and sponge in the other side, the actor taking on the role of make-up artist too in-between takes.

And as they then got on with filming the scene, Winslet notes she actually ended up ‘bumping’ her knees on the railing, the pair ending up ‘giggling’ and ‘covered in each other’s makeup’.

“Oh my God, it goes on and on and on,” she continues, pointing out a moment she ‘can’t breathe’ properly as her ‘boobs are practically up to [her] chin’.

Winslet adds: “My God, he’s quite the romancer, isn’t he? No wonder every young girl in the world wanted to be kissed by Leonardo DiCaprio.”

However, she notes as a result of Rose and Jack’s romantic smooch actually seeing her left with a face looking like it had ‘a caramel chocolate bar’ all over it and DiCaprio with ‘a bit missing from his face’: “Oh god, it. was such a mess. It was not all it’s cracked up to be.”

So, all in all the scene was a lot more rom-com – than just rom – for the actors involved at least, not that you could guess that at all when watching it – I mean, they are actors after all.

Winslet resolves she does ‘feel very proud’ of the scene and film in general because it’s a ‘film that just keeps giving,’ finding it ‘extraordinary’ how whole generations are ‘discovering’ the film for ‘the first time’.

Although, she adds she could do without people trying to get her to ‘reenact’ this scene ‘every time’ she’s on a boat which ‘does [her] head in’.

Jeffrey Epstein took sex tapes of Bill Clinton and Sir Richard Branson, court documents claim

Jeffrey Epstein took sex tapes of Bill Clinton and Sir Richard Branson, court documents claims.

Sex tapes were allegedly taken of Bill Clinton and Sir Richard Branson, an alleged victim of Jeffrey Epstein claims in court documents.

Last week, a list of Epstein’s associates was made public and social media has been put into a frenzy.

While many have vilified the famous individuals mentioned on the list, others have used it as an opportunity to muddy the waters.

The documents formed part of a 2015 defamation lawsuit brought against Ghislaine Maxwell, a known associate of convicted sex offender Epstein, by one of his accusers, Virginia Giuffre.

At the time, the names were kept secret under a court-ordered seal – with the names ‘John Doe’ or ‘Jane Doe’ used to refer to those involved.

Maxwell is now serving a 20-year prison sentence for the crimes she’d committed with Epstein, who died in 2019, and New York Judge Loretta Preska ruled that the names could be made public.

But now, the recently revealed documents are claiming Epstein took sex tapes of Bill Clinton and Sir Richard Branson.

Sarah Ransome, who gave a victim impact statement ahead of the sentencing of British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell for sex-trafficking, appeared to write communications claiming the three were filmed by the paedophile financier.

On behalf of Mr Branson, a Virgin Group spokeswoman said: “In a New Yorker report published in 2019, Ransome admitted that she had ‘invented’ the tapes.

“We can confirm that Sarah Ransome’s claims are baseless and unfounded.”

Indeed, the New Yorker’s Connie Bruck says Ransome told her she invented the tapes to trick Epstein into thinking she had ‘evidence that would come out if he harmed me’.

The extracts were flagged by a firm representing Epstein’s lawyer, Alan Dershowitz, to demonstrate Ms Ransome ‘manifestly lacks credibility’.

New court documents are making the claims.

Addressing the claims about the Virgin boss, in the document released as part of another tranche published on Monday, Ms Ransome wrote: “When my friend had sexual intercourse with Clinton, Prince Andrew and Richard Branson, sex tapes were in fact filmed on each separate occasion by Jeffrey.

“Thank God she managed to get a hold of some footage of the filmed sex tapes, which clearly identify the faces of Clinton, Prince Andrew and Branson having sexual intercourse with her.

“Frustratingly enough Epstein was not seen in any of the footage but he was clever like that!

“When my friend eventually had the courage to speak out and went to the police in 2008 to report what had happened, nothing was done and she was utterly humiliated by the police department where she went to report what had happened with Epstein, Clinton, Branson and Prince Andrew.”

UNILAD has reached out to Clinton’s, Branson’s and Trump’s representatives for comment.

Island Boys deny they've ever met Jeffrey Epstein as photo goes viral

Island Boys deny they’ve ever met Jeffrey Epstein as photo goes viral

Conspiracy theorists had latched onto the photo, which many believed to be real

Kit Roberts

TikTok twins The Island Boys have found themselves at the centre of a conspiracy theory online.

An image began circulating appearing to show convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein with two young boys.

Conspiracy theorists subsequently latched onto the image, claiming that the two boys in the photo were the viral TikTok stars Franky and Alex Venegas, who use the stage name The Island Boys.

The image of Epstein.

Instagram/@aiartisking/TikTok/flyysouljah/kodiyakredd

The photo looks convincing, and began circulating on social media in April.

In it, Epstein appears to pose on a beach with four boys, two of them in front of him, who appear caucasian though The Island Boys are of Cuban heritage.

Epstein has become the centre of numerous conspiracy theories over his infamous private island.

The tropical island Little St James in the US Virgin Islands may have appeared to be a piece of paradise, but was actually at the centre of an international sex trafficking ring.

A criminal complainant told the attorney general of the US Virgin Islands that the island was ‘the perfect hideaway and haven for trafficking young women and underage girls for sexual servitude, child abuse, and sexual assault’.

The Island Boys have denied knowing Epstein.

TikTok/flyysouljah/kodiyakredd

Epstein’s Island is unfortunately the perfect conditions for conspiracy theories to take root. In the case of the image of The Island Boys, unfortunately it seems this is exactly what has happened.

The Island Boys have denied they are in the photo, and added they had no idea who Epstein was until he began featuring in the news over his crimes.

Alex said that neither he nor his brother left their home state of Florida until they were 18 years old.

They have also claimed that the image is a fake. In this case, it seems that may indeed be the case.

The picture appeared on small Instagram page @aiartisking, which only posts AI generated images. While the original post only got a small number of likes, the image has since been reposted in a lower definition.

A fact-check by PolitiFact looked into the image, and confirmed that it has been generated using AI.

Hive Moderation, which is a programme designed to detect AI-generated images, found there was an overwhelming likelihood the image was AI-generated. A 99.9 percent likelihood in fact, and it doesn’t get much more likely than that.

So-called ‘deepfake’ images are one of the more immediately alarming problems being caused by AI. This could be harmful even if the image is proven to be fake, as this case sadly shows.
