Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofia Gascón has issued an apology for ‘racists and offensive’ tweets that have resurfaced this week.
In a series of tweets over 2020 and 2021, Gascón expressed some controversial views regarding George Floyd, diversity at the Oscars, and Muslims.
And in a statement provided to Variety on Thursday (January 30), the actor expressed her sorrow at the social media posts.
“I want to acknowledge the conversation around my past social media posts that have caused hurt,” she said.
“As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness.”

Variety reports one post Gascón put online came a matter of days after George Floyd was killed by a police officer and widespread protests took place across the US.
Speaking at the tine, the Emilia Pérez star said: “I really think that very few people ever cared about George Floyd, a drug addict swindler, but his death has served to once again demonstrate that there are people who still consider black people to be monkeys Without rights and consider policemen to be assassins. They’re all wrong.”
As for the Oscars, Gascón touched on diversity within the awards show – thoughts that has resurfaced this week.
She wrote: “More and more the #Oscars are looking like a ceremony for independent and protest films, I didn’t know if I was watching an Afro-Korean festival, a Black Lives Matter demonstration or the 8M. Apart from that, an ugly, ugly gala.”

And a further 2020 social media post was translated by Variety, with Gascón attaching her thoughts with a photo of a Muslim family in a restaurant.
She wrote: “Islam is marvelous, without any machismo. Women are respected, and when they are so respected they are left with a little squared hole on their faces for their eyes to be visible and their mouths, but only if she behaves. Although they dress this way for their own enjoyment. How DEEPLY DISGUSTING OF HUMANITY.”
While Gascón has previously expressed her views on the Oscars, she made history last week by becoming the first openly transgender actor to be nominated for an award at the prestigious awards show.

Sofia Vergara has been called out by a Modern Family co-star as the ‘rudest celebrity’ she’s ever encountered.
The 52-year-old actor starred as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the much-loved comedy, alongside the likes of Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Sarah Hyland, and Nolan Gould.
While Vergara is very much praised for her role in Modern Family, one actor who has previously worked with her is certainly not a fan.
Kelly Mantle has opened up about her experience working with Vergara after she joined the Modern Family cast for a guest appearance as a drag queen in the 2019 episode ‘The Last Halloween’.

Speaking on The Bald and the Beautiful podcast with Trixie and Katya, Mantle dubbed Vergara the ‘rudest celebrity‘ she’s ever met after a whole fiasco with a wig and her general treatment of staff.
She said: “It was not the most pleasant experience I’ve ever experienced. It wasn’t toward me. It was the way that some of her staff were being treated.
“In the episode, she’s wearing a wig, and they kept wanting to put bobby pins in it, and she kept telling them no bobby pins.”
A scene then follows involving Mantle and Vergara, but it really doesn’t go to plan, according to Vergara.
“They yell action, and I’m supposed to put the crown on her hair. So I put the crown on, and then they say cut, and she’s like, ‘Watch out for the wig! You’re putting the crown on my head!'” Mantle added.
While Mantle acknowledged Vergara wasn’t the nicest on that particular set, she did concede the actor may have just been having a bad day.
“Maybe it was a bad day. I’m just going to say it was a bad day. Because she’s hilarious, and beautiful, and talented, and gorgeous. I’m sure it was a bad day,” she said on the podcast.
LADbible Group has reached out to Vergara’s representatives for comment.

It comes after the actor made all the headlines after her reaction to missing out on a Golden Globe to Jodie Foster went viral.
As Foster went up on stage to collect her accolade for Best TV Actress, Vergara was heard saying from the audience: “No, no! Not again! Give me one!”
A body language expert broke down Vergara’s reaction amid a lot of noise online.
Darren Stanton, for Betfair Casino, said: “Jodie Foster and Sofia Vergara shared mutual laugh during ‘light-hearted’ heckling.
“Jodie Foster being heckled by Sofia, is quite interesting.
“You’ve got Vergara who lost out, and Jodie’s a tough cookie. We didn’t see the classic signs of contempt, but what we did see is duper’s delight, which is when someone feels they’ve got away with something.
“Because Jodie knows her position in Hollywood, she flashes this big smile, it more or less signifies her position as a Hollywood megastar.”

Warning: This article contains graphic images and video which some readers may find distressing.
A former employee of The Howard Stern Show has spoken out after being arrested post-live-streaming footage of her in a physical altercation with someone.
On Monday (April 8) Elisa Jordana – born Elisa Ann Schwartz – took to her YouTube channel in a two-hour livestream event showing her in Palm Beach, Florida.
Titled ‘Not Doing Good’, the video soon descended into an alarming situation with violence and later an arrest ensuing. Warning: Scenes of violence:
The writer – who’s previously worked for The Howard Stern Show – was joined by a man in her livestream, who was identified as being called Zscorro and who Jordana called her ‘boyfriend‘.
The meet-up saw Jordana call the girl Zscorro allegedly cheated on her with called ‘Sara’. And the situation escalated further when the pair got into the car together.
Jordana seemingly got on the phone to Sara and while she was on the phone, the livestream documented her hitting Zscorro in the arm multiple times.
Jordana then threatened Sara with exposing her naked photographs online and when Zscorro apologised to Sara, Jordana hit him in the face – with Zscorro exclaiming that she ‘almost broke [his] nose’.
When Zscorro told Jordana that ‘next time you f**king touch me’ he’d ‘f**king deck’ her, she raised her hand again and he then later grabbed her hair, made her pull the car over and pushed her out.
It didn’t take long for the clip to go viral on social media and Jordana was arrested later that day by officers from Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office on a charge of alleged battery and the writer has since issued a public apology.

When approached by UNILAD after the incident, Jordana said in a statement: “I’m very heartbroken on recent events and also very regretful. I made so many mistakes recently.
“I have hours of footage with ZScorro, and if I had just listened to every single person in my life, this would not have happened.”
In an exclusive statement to the Daily Mail, Schwartz also added: “I just want to say I’m so sorry for what I portrayed on my livestream that everyone saw.
“This is not what I want to give to the world and it sucks that I got into such a sadness and anger – it was a really negative representation of who I am.
“I’m going to do everything I can to have better relationships with people that are good for me, and people that I’m also good for.”
She added that the incident and her arrest were ‘the most challenging time of [her] life’ and ‘if I can get through this time I will definitely be proud’.

Teen Mom star Bristol Palin has admitted she’s ‘worried’ about her health following a recent facial paralysis from a disorder ‘brought on by stress’.
The 34-year-old actor has explained she was left with ‘zero movement’ on the left side of her face, following a ‘pulling’ feeling towards the left nine days prior.
“Within a couple hours, the entire left side of my face was numb and just paralysed,” she told her followers on Instagram.
“I couldn’t really blink my eye [and I] definitely had no movement on the side of my face… So crazy.”
On one particular day, Palin opened up on the pain she had been suffering in an honest address to her followers.
“It’s so bad. My nose is like crooked when I talk. It’s really bad,” she said before heading to the doctor’s office.

After extensive tests at the hospital, medical experts think Palin may have Bell’s palsy – though she hasn’t received a definite diagnosis as of yet.
Mayo Clinic states the condition ’causes sudden weakness in the muscles on one side of the face’.
“Often the weakness is short-term and improves over weeks. The weakness makes half of the face appear to droop. Smiles are one-sided, and the eye on the affected side is hard to close,” the website added.
Also known as acute peripheral facial palsy, the condition can impact those at any age, though the exact cause remains unclear at this stage.
Experts do however believe swelling and irritation of the nerve that controls the muscles on one side of the face contributes towards it, as per Mayo Clinic.

It could also be caused by a reaction that occurs after a viral infection.
The website continued: “Symptoms usually start to improve within a few weeks, with complete recovery in about six months.”
As she shared pictures and videos of her progress, the Teen Mom star said on Instagram: “I know I look crazy right now but this has been such an improvement from what I was looking like.”
Things are on the up for Palin thankfully, as she explained treatments and other medication has helped the cause.
“I’m finally starting to get some sensation back. It’s been a little painful the last two days which is a good indication that it’s getting better,” she explained.
Get well soon Bristol!

Warning: This article contains discussion of suicide which some readers may find distressing.
People on social media have come to the agreement that this cult classic has the ‘saddest character in the history of cinema’.
While many film fanatics will watch movies for the comedy and even enjoyment factor, there’s no doubt films that provide a tear or two have their fair share of fans.
The Shawshank Redemption, a much-loved iconic movie, has become the talk of the town on social media, and it will for sure make viewers get emotional.
Released in 1994, The Shawshank Redemption follows Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), a successful banker who is arrested for the murders of his wife and her lover.

He is sentenced to life imprisonment at the Shawshank prison despite knowing he didn’t commit the awful crimes.
But while behind bars, he forms an unlikely friendship with Red (Morgan Freeman), while also dealing with the harsh reality of prison life.
Viewers are also told Brooks Hatlen’s (James Whitmore) story, who spends decades in prison before release.
But Brooks quickly realizes the outside world is very different to what he remembered, and struggles to adapt to normal life.
Brooks even wrote a letter to his pals in prison explaining how he’d been astounded at the changes to the outside world compared to his youth.
He became very lonely and his accommodation didn’t provide much comfort.
Amid his ongoing difficulties, the former prisoner dies by suicide.
“The saddest character in the history of cinema,” one person penned on Facebook’s Netflix Bangers.
“Ugh-still brings tears my eyes after all these years,” a second wrote while a third quipped: “Certainly heartbreaking.”
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “One of the Best films ever.”

The cult classic is 30 years old (Columbia Pictures)
While it may have released 30 years ago, many say The Shawshank Redemption still holds up well to this day.
The movie sits at an impressive 89 percent Rotten Tomatoes score in 2025, suggesting it’s handled the incredibly sensitive topics well.
Lizzie Francke, from Sight & Sound, wrote: “The towering Tim Robbins has a solidity and gentle interiority that occasionally reminds one here of Burt Lancaster. Of equal excellence is Morgan Freeman as Red, who holds the film together with his poetic, often quipping narration.”
While Newsday’s review said: “You’ve never seen a prison movie quite like it, and I found its eccentric rhythms and the performances of co-stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman nearly irresistible.”
