A 53-year-old white British man is currently in custody after a car plowed into a crowd of Liverpool supporters at the club’s victory parade.
As many as 47 people are understood to have been injured at the scene, on Water Street – in Liverpool city center, yesterday (May 26) at around 6pm local time.
Merseyside Police is not treating the incident as a terror attack.
Authorities have confirmed that 27 of those have been hospitalised, while the remaining 20 were treated at the scene.
Of those in hospital, two have sustained serious injuries – one of them is a child.
Four children in total were injured during the rampage, one of which was stuck under the car alongside three adults who were all freed by firefighters after being mowed down by the vehicle.

Harrowing footage circulating online shows the motorist blasting his horn at supporters in the city center prior to accelerating into the crowd, before coming to a stop at the scene – where he was detained and subsequently arrested.
Hundreds of thousands of Liverpool FC fans had gathered in the city to celebrate the team’s first ever Premier League win in front of the fans, with the last one coming in 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a press conference last night, assistant chief constable Jenny Sims said: “Firstly, my thoughts are with all those injured in tonight’s horrific incident, their families and friends, and all those affected by the terrible tragedy that has taken place today.
“I want to thank all the emergency services, partner agencies and members of the public who came to the assistance of the injured following this evening’s shocking events.

“Specialist officers have been put in place to support the injured and their families.”

Witnesses in Liverpool, UK, have shared what they saw when a man plowed into crowds of soccer fans.
Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said the incident was not being treated as terrorism and was believed to be an isolated incident following the arrest of a 53-year-old man at the scene. The force said the suspect was the driver of the car, white, British and from the Liverpool area, UK.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he had spoken to the Mayor of Liverpool about the incident, adding: “Everyone, especially children, should be able to celebrate their heroes without this horror.”
At a press conference on Monday evening (May 26), Dave Kitchin from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said 27 people were taken to hospital and 20 people were treated at the scene, with four children among the injured.
He said two of those taken to hospital, including one of the children, suffered serious injuries.
In total it’s been reported that 50 people have been left wounded.
Nick Searle, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service chief fire officer, said four people who were trapped under the car, including a child, were rescued by firefighters.
Footage circulating online appeared to show the vehicle speed up as it veered into pedestrians on both sides of the crowded street.
Officers surrounded the car as witnesses attempted to stop the driver, who was eventually detained by police.
Witness Les Winsper, 55, told The Guardian of how the incident unfolded in front of him.
He told the newspaper: “People started banging on the (car) windows. Then they smashed the windows and he panicked and put his foot down.
“He then hit someone and that person has gone in the air and he’s ploughed through the rest of them. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Also speaking to The Guardian, a woman called Chelsea said that the driver was showing no sign of slowing down.
“With the commotion, that was the only reason we looked up, and thankfully, looked up and managed to jump out [of] the way in time,” she shared.
Another witness, who was walking with a group of friends, said he saw a car ‘speeding up’ and hitting pedestrians.
Mike Maddra told the PA news agency the ‘car turned left, mounted pavement, come towards us and runs towards the buildings’.
He said: “We got out the way and it was speeding up.”
Mr Maddra said he thought he saw two people being hit and added that it ‘looked deliberate’.

Elsewhere in a statement, Sir Keir Starmer said: “The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected.”
He later added: “They are supporting and caring for those injured in these terrible events.
“Everyone, especially children, should be able to celebrate their heroes without this horror.
“The city has a long and proud history of coming together through difficult times.
“Liverpool stands together and the whole country stands with Liverpool.”

Foreign authorities have spoken out after the body of a mom who was on vacation with her family in Turkey is returned home with her ‘heart missing’.
A British family say they have endured the ‘deepest level of trauma’ after a young mom-of-two died while on vacation in Turkey and was returned home with one of her major organs missing.
Beth Martin became unwell on the flight on April 27, and was rushed to Marmara University Hospital in Istanbul not long after arriving.
Tragically, the 28-year-old died just days later, but her husband Luke – who accompanied Beth alongside their two young children, aged eight and five – said they endured another nightmare with the Turkish authorities, accusing the hospital of removing her heart with ‘no explanation’ or consent.
Now, the Turkish Ministry of Health has broken its silence on the ordeal, stating that Beth died of a ‘cardiac arrest due to multiple organ failures’, according to the Daily Mail.

Officials have further stated she did not ‘undergo any surgical procedures’ during the preliminary autopsy at the hospital, but did not confirm or deny if this took place when she was transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute for a second autopsy.
The full statement reads: “The patient was recorded in the hospital records as a ‘forensic case’ in line with the statement of Martin’s wife that they may have been poisoned by a meal they ate in their country before the trip, and the initial findings.”
“A preliminary autopsy [without incision] was performed at the hospital in accordance with the forensic case procedure and his wife’s request in this regard.
“The exact cause of Martin’s death could not be determined with the current findings in the preliminary autopsy, which was carried out with the participation of the Public Prosecutor and the forensic medicine doctor.

“Beth Martin did not undergo any surgical procedures during her treatment at the hospital, and there was no question of any organs being removed.”
However, Beth’s family say they are left with more questions than answers.
Luke said he was ‘banned’ from seeing Beth while she was in intensive care, and fears the hospital may have administered her penicillin, which he said he told medics that she was allergic to.
Her husband was also quizzed by cops on whether he had poisoned her. He only learned of her death upon his release via a written statement.
He claims he was also allowed just ‘one minute, no more’ with Beth in the morgue before allegedly having to carry her body bag with the help of a translator through the hospital.

It was then another battle just to get the mom-of-two’s body back home – when British coroners determined her heart was missing.
A GoFundMe for the family accuse the Turkish hospital of having ‘removed it’ with ‘no explanation’ or consent.
A medical negligence investigation has since been launched for The Marmara Pendik hospital over her unexplained death, the family added, while English coroners could take up to six months to determine what caused her organs to fail.
In a Facebook post, Luke added: “It has been the worst and most traumatic week of my entire life, and to top it off.. I had to break the news to my babies that their mum is not coming home, it broke me.”
The GoFundMe has since raised £256,020 (roughly $346,753) at the time of writing, and can be donated to here.
UNILAD has contacted the Turkish Ministry of Health for further comment.

A Colorado teen has died after jumping into an ‘electrified lake’ during Independence Day celebrations.
Jesse Hamric, 18, dove into the water at Smith Mountain Lake outside Roanoke, Virginia in the early hours of Thursday morning.
However, friends of the teen immediately knew something was terribly wrong.
Jesse’s pals jumped in and immediately found themselves shocked once they had entered the water.
WDBJ reports that despite their own injuries, they were able to pull Jesse out from the water.
One of Jesse’s friends began performing CPR on the teen while another rapidly went looking for help.

At around 4am local time, paramedics and other rescue crews arrived at the scene, who rushed Jesse to a nearby hospital.
However, the teen later died in hospital.
A subsequent investigation by fire crews concluded that electrical currents were present in the water the teen jumped into.
Police have since determined it was caused by stray voltage spreading from a dock at a nearby residence.
No foul play is suspected.
Jesse’s friends sustained minor injuries as a result of diving into the water in an attempt to save him.
Alex Schwab, Jesse’s friend, told KDVR: “Ever since I first met that kid, I mean, he’s like one of a kind. You see him and you just, like, he always has a smile on his face.
“Still can’t even like process it. I’m so upset by it.”
Jesse had just graduated from high school in May, excelling on both the football and baseballs teams during his time there.

A GoFundMe page has since been set up to help Jesse’s family.
The fundraiser reads: “Please join us in supporting the beloved Hamric family. They are true servants of our community who make life in Steamboat Springs better by all that they do and by who they are!
“Jesse was a dearly loved friend, bringing light and positivity everywhere he went, and he will be missed everyday.”
While Independence Day is meant to be a time of celebration for Americans, we do hear tragic stories every year.
Last Thursday, 41-year-old Allen Ray McGrew placed a lit firework on his head and it erupted.
McGrew then collapsed, according to Dorchester County Sheriff’s department, before he was pronounced dead at the scene at 11.10pm.
Coroners have put his cause of death due to ‘massive head injuries’ which would’ve killed him immediately.
