Rebel Wilson caught in freak accident on film set that almost left her face ‘permanently disfigured’

Rebel Wilson shared how the accident occurred in what was her final fight scene of her latest comedy

An accident on the set of Rebel Wilson’s latest film Bride Hard almost left the her ‘permanently disfigured’.

The Australian stars as a spy in the comedy, which sees her attend her childhood best friend’s wedding that gets crashed by mercenaries – unfortunately for them, the 45-year-old’s character is locked and loaded for what’s about to go on.

Although, it was the Sydney-born actress who would be caught unawares on this occasion, as she explained how her final fight scene that took place at 3am ended in stitches – and not the ones you’d hope from a comedy, but from a visit to the plastic surgeon.

While Wilson and her co-star Anna Camp were promoting the one-hour-45-minute movie, the Aussie let slip about the horror that unfolded on director Simon West’s set.

“I did have a massive injury on this movie. I was in a fight scene, a gun accidentally got whacked across my face – it was just a freak accident, and my nose got split open,” Wilson told Access Hollywood.

“So I left set. It was weirdly my last night of shooting, I was like, ‘how unlucky can I be?’, the last night of shooting, the last fight sequence my nose gets bust open – it’s a pool of blood. If anybody’s had a facial injury, they know, like, there’s so much blood.

“I was freaking out, they take me in an ambulance and they have to call a plastic surgeon, because if they didn’t I would have been permanently disfigured. So we got the plastic surgeon, they did all the stitches, and you can’t tell now, like, you really can’t tell.”

She added: “Yeah, it was just one of those freak accidents. And so people gotta be real careful with onset safety, even sometimes when it’s 3am in the morning and everyone’s tired. Yes, you got to be real careful.”

Wilson might have thought it was all worth it if Bride Hard, which is set for release in theaters on Friday (June 20), was well received at the pictures… but going off reviews from well-respected film critics, that seems unlikely.

The Wrap’s William Bibbiani titled his brutal review on the movie ‘This Incompetent Action-Comedy Is Where Humor Goes to Die‘, while describing it as ‘abrasively hard to watch’ – ouch!

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter’s Angie Han went with a similar approach, with her review headlined: Rebel Wilson’s Laugh-Free Action Comedy Is an Invitation You’ll Want to Decline.

While it may not be the expert’s cup of tea, I’m sure it could help get you through an afternoon!

Rebel Wilson reveals staggering difference between what she was paid for Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect 3

The percentage difference is wild

Rebel Wilson’s has opened up about the gobsmacking percentage increase in pay she received from Bridesmaids to Pitch Perfect 3.

Earlier this year, Wilson’s release of her book Rebel Rising saw the actor open up about not losing her virginity until the age of 35 to a fellow actor – who she also named – alongside accusing Sacha Baron Cohen of treating her appallingly on set of The Brothers Grimsby, which the actor responded to.

And one section of the 2024 release also discusses the pay she received in two of the movies she is most widely recognized for.

Wilson’s breakout role was in Bridesmaidsthe Oscar-nominated Paul Feig comedy where she starred alongside Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Maya Rudolph.

Within two weeks of the movie’s premiere, she booked six different movies, including Pitch Perfect, which went on to bring Wilson’s career to another level of success.

While it paid off for her though, she earned a tiny amount in Bridesmaids considering the success it garnered, being paid just $3,500, a segment from her book revealed by PEOPLE magazine states.

She said in the book that it ‘didn’t matter to [her]’ and that ‘the experience was everything’.

The fee was reportedly just enough for her to join the SAG-AFTRA actors union, which allowed her to continue to make movies in the US.

This figure jumped to $65,000 for the first Pitch Perfect, and by the time the third film came around – she’d earned a whopping $10,000,000 for her role as ‘Fat Amy’.

Speaking to The New York Times, she claimed that she was originally offered $9,000,000 – but was determined to get that massive eight figure contract for the film.

She said: “Universal Studios are incredible, but did they make a ton of money from the ‘Pitch Perfect’ movies? Yes.

“So despite me absolutely loving all those folks at Universal, did I use that leverage to my advantage? Yes. And in the 11th hour, I go, ‘You know, that’s a lovely offer of $9 million. But I need one more to make it 10.’

“That’s a big milestone when you’re an actor. To receive an eight-figure offer, for a woman, is huge.

“Sometimes women don’t like to talk about that. Whereas I don’t think the guys have any issues saying they get $20 million a movie.”

The figure is an almost 300,000 percent increase from Bridesmaids, and announced the Australian comedic actor as one of the highest paid female actors of all time.

This leverage for Pitch Perfect 3 supposedly came in part due to plans by executives to replace the core cast of the Bellas for the third film – wanting to put a new cast of characters around Hailee Steinfeld, who was introduced in the second film.

This made the cast harder to rebook for the third film of the trilogy, especially as the second film with the original cast made nearly $300 million at the box office, the highest sum in the series.

The third film was still a huge success – with the acapella-focused comedy earning $185 million at the box office off a budget of $45 million.

If you thought Rebel Ridge was wild, wait till you see what else the director has got up to in the past.

Jeremy Saulnier, the man behind Netflix‘s latest big thriller, has burst into the mainstream with Rebel Ridge.

A tense thriller, the violence and gruesomeness peaks at the end of the film in an all-out fight with the police, but never really goes beyond the level we are used to seeing from thrillers.

This cannot be said of the American director’s earlier films.

Whilst the Aaron Pierre led cop-drama may be the top film on Netflix, Saulnier’s previous film was an incredibly visceral affair that had some viewers on the brink of throwing up.

The best thing? You can watch it for free.

Saulnier’s last film before Rebel Ridge was nine years ago in 2015, the huge gap in part being due to John Boyega dropping out of his latest movie which delayed production by an entire year.

Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin starred in the film before his tragic death – one of the last before his passing at just 27 in 2016.

And opposite him was Patrick Stewart in a rare horror role in which he plays a terrifying villain.

The film is called Green Room, and it follows a punk rock band who have to fight their way out of a compound surrounded by American Neo-Nazis.

If that concept alone didn’t get you hooked, we do not watch films in the same way.

Joining Yelchin in the band on the non-Nazi side of things is a cast full of now stars before they blew up – Imogen Poots, Joe Cole, and Callum Turner.

With Stewart playing the Nazi-in-chief, the film received rave reviews, with a score of 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and 7/10 on IMDb.

One fan discussing the film on the subreddit r/horror said: “One of the most tense viewing experiences I’ve ever had.

“Honestly can’t remember a movie that had me so on edge the whole time.”

In one Reddit thread discussing scenes that made horror fans want to be sick, one fan replied: “The arm/door and box cutter scenes in Green Room”.

Whilst I won’t spoil the film, you can figure out from context that the scenes in question are exceedingly gnarly.

While another viewer posted in r/horror to say that they have ‘never’ felt so anxious as when watching the film, writing: “I thought my heart was going to explode. It is such an incredibly tense movie that creates an unnerving atmosphere.

“Amazing performances and movie but I felt awful while watching it.”

One commenter replied: “Oh thank you for reminding me of this one! Yes, it was something else and the acting was phenomenal. I loved Patrick Stewart’s character, he plays an amazing villain”.

Another commented: “Anton Yelchin was a blast to watch in any movie he was in. We’ve missed out on so much”.

Netflix subscribers cannot get enough of Tyler Perry’s latest movie following its arrival on the streaming platform this week.

While I enjoy getting a laugh and a giggle out of a new show or film, sometimes you prefer something that tugs at your heartstrings instead.

And if there’s one person who can offer you a chance to burst into tears of laughter or sadness, then it’s Perry.

Netflix has recently released a TV show created by PerryShe The People, and that’s already leaving viewers with their sides splitting.

However, for his latest film, the actor is taking on the director’s chair, and viewers have been left incredibly impressed, with some dubbing it a ’10/10′.

Straw, which was released on Netflix on Friday (June 6), tells the story of a single mother, Janiyah Wiltkinson (Taraji P. Henson), and the struggles she faces to care for her ill daughter.

However, it all becomes too much as her world collapses around her, leading her to decide to hold up a bank in an attempt to survive.

When discussing Henson’s character, Perry, who also produced and wrote the film, described her as a woman who is ‘just trying to survive’.

“I think that a lot of people around the world, no matter if you’re a Black woman or not, will be able to relate to that feeling of, ‘I’m at my last straw’.” the Meet The Browns star told Tudum.

Straw has since become the talk of the town on the ‘Netflix Bangers’ Facebook page, with many praising the film and Henson’s performance.

“This is a 10/10. MUST WATCH,” one viewer wrote.

A second added: “Just watched..tears….all through the movie…we need Straw 2,” while a third remarked: “Excellent movie, I cried throughout the movie and was angry at the same time.”

A fourth said: “Taraji deserves an award for this one.”

Even the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes shows it’s been a hit with viewers, reaching 80 per cent.

Straw certainly tells a compelling story, something which Perry spoke about during a discussion with Tudum. When asked about what he hopes audiences will take away from Straw’s story, he said: “I don’t set out to teach or have people think about anything when I’m writing. I just want the story to come through me as it comes.

“But if people walk away from this realizing that everybody’s going through something, that everybody has a story, and that one smile or that one bit of kindness that you give them could be the difference between making or breaking their entire world, that’s a message that I’d love to resonate.”

Straw is now available to stream on Netflix.

After many watched Straw for the first time over the weekend, many have headed to social media sites such as Reddit to discuss a ‘twist’ that saw some fans ‘crying’.

One person penned: “Just finished watching…. I genuinely didn’t see that twist coming. I don’t usually cry at films but this is one of those rare occasions.”

While second added: “I cried hard. The entire movie. I had to take a lil break.”

Straw has also become a discussion point on the ‘Netflix Bangers’ Facebook page, with many heaping praise on Perry’s latest flick.

“This is a 10/10. MUST WATCH,” one viewer wrote.

Straw has been well received by critics, as Dennis Harvey, from Variety, penned in his review: “Straw has a cultural pulse-taking urgency that lifts it above [Tyler Perry’s] usual run of comedies and melodramatic potboilers, flawed as it is.”

Entertainment Weekly’s Jordan Hoffman added: “Straw is not exactly subtle, but the emotions are so raw and the performances are so earnest that you’ve really got to have a heart of stone not to care for these people.”

And Casey Chong, for Casey’s Movie Mania, said: “Taraji P. Henson elevates Tyler Perry’s melodramatic but tense thriller.”
