Stephen Hawking had very simple answer when asked if he believed in God

Hawking had a ‘profound realisation’…

Given the clash which often occurs when it comes to science and religion, you may have a sense of where this is going.

However, as one of the world’s most famous and renowned scientists, Hawking decided to look at the two typically opposing sides and compare them on the basis of their ‘laws’ per say.

Hawking – who passed away in 2018 at the age of 76 – was a world-renowned theoretical physicist, cosmologist and author, best known for his work in the fields of general relativity and quantum gravity alongside writing a book titled The Theory of Everything: The Origin and Fate of the Universe (2002).

Speaking about his disability in his final bookBrief Answers to the Big Questions, Hawking discussed the idea of God and religion, writing: “For centuries, it was believed that disabled people like me were living under a curse that was inflicted by God.

He continued: “Well, I suppose it’s possible that I’ve upset someone up there, but I prefer to think that everything can be explained another way, by the laws of nature.

“If you believe in science, like I do, you believe that there are certain laws that are always obeyed. If you like, you can say the laws are the work of God, but that is more a definition of God than a proof of his existence.”

Hawking then went on to share his opinions on the possibility of a God or life after death.

He voiced: “We are each free to believe what we want and it’s my view that the simplest explanation is there is no God.

“No one created the universe and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization, there’s probably no Heaven and no afterlife, either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe and for that I am extremely grateful.”

And he echoed a similar sentiment during an interview with The Guardian.

He said: “I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail.

“There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark.”

However, that’s not to say Hawking – who was was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a type of motor neurone disease, in 1963, when he was just 21-years-old. – didn’t find solace and meaning elsewhere.

He said, as per the New York Times: “Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist.

“Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.”

Stephen Hawking had warning about Earth facing ‘disaster’ before he died

What do Stephen Hawking and Ice Age have in common? Well, clearly more than you’d think given their shared warning about Earth

Poppy Bilderbeck

Turns out we should’ve all been paying a bit more attention during our binge-watching of Ice Age during Christmas.

As we head into 2025, the impacts of artificial intelligence and climate change may still feel like a safe-enough distant reality, however, that doesn’t mean ‘disaster’ isn’t coming as predicted by the late theoretical physicist and cosmologist, Stephen Hawking – and potentially Ice Age: Collision Course too.

Who’d have thought, eh?

Director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge and considered one of the most prestigious academics across the whole world, Hawking shared several theories, concerns and suggestions before he passed away in 2018.

One idea he repeatedly advocated for was the idea of humans trying to find another planet to inhabit rather than simply relying on Earth.

During a press conference in 2017 in London, Hawking warned: “I strongly believe we should start seeking alternative planets for possible habitation.

“We are running out of space on Earth and we need to break through the technical limitations preventing us living elsewhere in the universe.”

And it’s not just running out of space which Hawking was worried about either.

Given how close asteroids come to Earth – some even colliding with our planet – it’s far from wild Hawking shared his concern about a large asteroid striking Earth and wiping us all out in a mass extinction.

We may laugh about it all when binge-watching Ice Age, but it’s actually a more real possibility than we realized age nine – or 24, hey I don’t judge – shovelling popcorn in our mouths while watching Scrat and his acorn obsession result in a huge rock barrelling towards Earth.

Oh and it’s not just asteroids to worry about either, artificial intelligence on the rise – TV series HUM4NS now looking like it really was predicting the future rather than simply make-believe for our entertainment.

Throw into the mix climate change, genetically modified (GM) viruses and nuclear war and hey, it’s a miracle we’re all still alive really.

And in a 2016 interview with the BBC, Hawking predicted just how long humankind has left if we do remain on Earth and only Earth.

He warned: “Although the chance of a disaster to planet Earth in a given year may be quite low, it adds up over time, and becomes a near certainty in the next thousand or 10,000 years.”

There is hope however, Hawking noting at the time he was fairly confident we’d have all found a way out to another planet by the time ‘disaster’ does strike.

But that doesn’t mean it will happen within many of our lifetimes, the physicist guessing humans won’t ‘establish self-sustaining colonies in space for at least the next hundred years’ and so ultimately we will have to be ‘very careful in this period’ ahead.

So, how about taking a leaf out of Greta Thunberg’s book and becoming an environmental activist for 2025?

Stephen Hawking said he had a simple answer when asked whether he believed in god

He shared his opinions on the existence of God and the afterlife in his final book

Stephen Hawking had a simple response when asked if he believed in the existence of God.

Hawking, who died aged 76 in 2018, was a world-renowned scientist and author whose life’s work centred on theoretical physics and cosmology – particularly black holes and the discovery of Hawking radiation.

You can hear his views on God and the afterlife here:

The late genius was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) – a type of motor neurone disease – in 1963, when he was just 21 and was warned by doctors that he had just two-years to live.

Although Hawking managed to completely defy the initial prognosis, his ability to move and communicate continued to deteriorate and he later communicated using an advanced computer system.

The computer was in the form of a tablet mounted to Hawking’s wheelchair arm and was powered by his wheelchair batteries.

There was a keyboard on the screen, which was controlled by detecting his cheek movements, allowing Hawking to type out what he wanted to say.

When he died at 76, he was the longest living MND survivor.

Hawking referenced his disability in his final book, Brief Answers to the Big Questions, writing: “For centuries, it was believed that disabled people like me were living under a curse that was inflicted by God. Well, I suppose it’s possible that I’ve upset someone up there, but I prefer to think that everything can be explained another way, by the laws of nature.

He went further with his opinions on the possibility of a God or of life after death.

“We are each free to believe what we want and it’s my view that the simplest explanation is there is no God,” he explained.

“No one created the universe and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization, there’s probably no Heaven and no afterlife, either.

“We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe and for that I am extremely grateful.”

Hawking also wrote: “I think belief in an afterlife is just wishful thinking. There is no reliable evidence for it, and it flies in the face of everything we know in science.”

Reporter shares response after President Zelenskyy had brutal answer when asked why he didn’t wear a suit to White House

American reporter Brian Glenn asked President Zelenskyy if he owns a suit

The debate about President Zelenskyy’s attire at the White House continues.

On Friday (February 28), Zelenskyy visited the White House for a historic meeting with Donald Trump.

Since the the war broke out in Ukraine when Russia invaded the country in February 2022, Zelenskyy has only worn all-black, military-style attire to official meetings – Friday included.

While this is nothing new for Zelenskyy, his decision not to wear a suit drew critcism from Americans, with one reporter questioning if he even owned a suit.

The reporter to pose such a question was Brian Glenn. He asked the Ukrainian president: “Why don’t you wear a suit? You’re at the highest level in this country’s office, and you refuse to wear a suit. Do you own a suit?”

Zelenskyy replied: “I will wear a suit after this war is over. Maybe something like yours. Maybe better, maybe cheaper.”

Glenn, who is dating controversial congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, went on to address the matter further on Twitter.

“I have extreme empathy for the people of Ukraine and all of those involved in this destructive war,” his lengthy tweet began.

“The lives that have been lost are precious and that’s something a country can never get back. The war needs to end.”

The reporter went on: “With that said, the United States has given Ukraine over $120b (some say it’s close to 300b) in assistance. That’s hard earned tax dollars from Americans. (Which most Americas are against funding).

“President Zelenskyy has worn the green jumpsuit (or something similar) on every occasion when meeting other world leaders, dressed respectfully for the occasion.

“For him, once again, to enter the highest office in the most powerful nation in the world, dressed as he did, reflects his inner disrespect for not only our country, the President and the US citizens that have made it possible for Ukraine to survive as long as they have to this point. (Financially speaking).”

“Moments after my exchange with President Zelenskyy, we began to hear a slightly different tone/mood from him when engaging with President Trump and VP JD Vance as his attire in fact did begin to reflect his overall attitude towards the negotiations,” Glenn continued.

“So yes, you can judge a book by its cover.

“With that said, I pray for an ending to this war and peace in that region.”

Taylor Greene has also weighed in on the matter.

Sharing a clip of Glenn asking Zelenskyy the question, the Republican penned: “I’m so proud of @brianglenntv for pointing out that Zelensky has so much disrespect for America that he can’t even wear a suit in the Oval Office when he comes to beg for money from our President!!”

Playboy model says Leonardo DiCaprio had surprising answer when asked why he never dates anyone above age of 25

A Playboy model has claimed Leonardo DiCaprio had a surprising answer for her when she asked him why he doesn’t date women over the age of 25.

The Titanic actor has quite the film resume behind him, and there’s no doubt he’s been a heartthrob for millions of people across the globe.

DiCaprio’s love life is never too far away from the headlines, garnering a lot of attention over the years due to his involvement with women up to the age of 25.

Frequent social media users will be well aware of the countless memes made about DiCaprio over the fact he ‘breaks up’ with partners when they reach the age of 25.

In 2016, DiCaprio was linked to actor Nina Agdal, but the pair went their separate ways when Agdal was 25 years old.

And one of DiCaprio’s more recent relationships with model Camila Morrone also ended just one month after she turned 25.

Earlier this year, Playboy model Hieke Konings shared what happened during an encounter she apparently had with DiCaprio during an invite-only nightclub in Los Angeles.

Konings, who appeared on the Dutch cover of Playboy, said: “I saw him sitting there in his black hoodie and black cap and we made eye contact.”

Konings claimed DiCaprio’s manager told her the actor wanted to talk to her, so she went over to his table and took the opportunity to ask DiCaprio about the alleged under-25-trend.”

According to the model, DiCaprio had a surprising response as he admitted to being ‘guilty’.

Konings further claimed she shared a snog with DiCaprio, but despite what many of his fans might expect, she said it was ‘not the best’ she’d had.

Konings then said she told the star she ‘didn’t know him well enough’ to take anything further, to which DiCaprio responded ‘sweetly’.

It’s unclear when Konings’ alleged encounter with DiCaprio took place.

UNILAD has previously reached out to DiCaprio’s representatives for comment about Konings’ claims.

DiCaprio has been most recently linked to Italian model Vittoria Ceretti – who, it’s worth noting, turned 26 in June this year.

Ceretti has modelled for the likes of Alexander McQueen and Versace during her career, and in November, an insider told Us Weekly DiCaprio was ‘completely smitten’ with the model.

“It’s going so well that Leo’s actually being exclusive,” the source claimed. “Vittoria is all he thinks about.”
