Netflix fans are raving about a historical drama they’re binge-watching in just one day.
The streaming service is home to thousands of titles, but with so many on offer, choosing your next watch can feel overwhelming.
Dozens of movies and shows are removed each month, making it all the more confusing.
But a TV series that’s set to stay has had viewers enthralled, featuring an element people have ‘never seen’ in television before.
And if you’re a fan of addictive series The Last Kingdom, this drama should be at the top of your watchlist.
Set in Europe during the Roman occupation of Magna Germania, the two-season Netflix series dramatizes the events surrounding the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 A.D.

Fans of The Last Kingdom will love this two-season drama (Netflix)
It follows Arminius (Laurence Rupp), a Germanic warrior who was taken to Rome as a child, along with his brother, to keep peace between his tribe – the Cherusci – and the Romans.
Raised as a Roman, he grows up to become a soldier in their army and later returns to his homeland to help Roman commander, Varus (Gaetano Aronica), keep control there.
But Arminius is shocked by how badly the Romans treat his people and, enlisting help from friends Thusnelda (Jeanne Goursaud) and Folkwin (David Schütter), he decides to take action.
The series impressed audiences with its use of both German and Latin, adding a layer of historical authenticity. There is an English dubbed version, too, if that’s your preference.
We’re talking about 2020 release Barbarians – and you can watch its trailer below:
Taking to the Netflix Bangers Facebook Group, one person left their glowing recommendation.
“Barbarians, 100/10,” they wrote, calling the show ‘very entertaining.’

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, the series was scored a solid 86 percent by critics and 71 percent by audience members.
“First season is incredible, it’s historically accurate, the story is powerful, acting and cast are amazing,” one person penned. “The use of Latin and German is just something I’ve never seen before. Just incredible.”

Netflix subscribers say they ‘couldn’t stop watching’ a thriller series which has racked up perfect ratings.
I, personally, love a good scare from time-to-time – whether that’s checking my bank account or hearing my friends’ latest dating disaster. Most people prefer their thrills in the form of a movie or TV series, though.
And if you’re after something deeply unsettling and psychological, this raved-about mini-series deserves a spot on your Netflix watchlist.
The drama revolves around a woman named Lena (Kim Riedle), who is held captive for five months with two young children, Hannah (Naila Schuberth) and Jonathan (Sammy Schrein).
With just Hannah in tow, she manages to flee her anonymous captor as police investigate the circumstances of her abduction.

Authorities are led to a mysterious case of a girl who vanished some 13 years prior. Could Lena be linked to that very disappearance?
The show alternates between the present investigation and flashbacks to the disturbing life Lena and the children lived. As the layers are peeled back, shocking truths are revealed.
The series in question is called Dear Child, based on the book of the same name (Liebes Kind) by Romy Hausmann.

A fourth said: “It’s rare that a show keeps me guessing but this one did just that,” while someone else weighed in: “I started watching this last night, I have one episode left… I think this is brilliant, well worth watching.”
Better yet, Dear Child has racked up a flawless 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics hailing it a ‘thrilling and twisted watch’.
One fan described the show as ‘binge-worthy,’ adding: “It had me right from the very start… and kept me on the edge of my seat.”

A historical adventure drama has Netflix viewers hooked, with some declaring that it ‘keeps getting better’ as it goes on.
The streaming service is known for its gripping TV series, including this ‘must watch’ new addition which viewers have been bingeing for a whopping 13 million hours.
With so much choice on our screens, sometimes an incredible series slips off our radar – much like this one.
Made up of five seasons and a feature-length movie sequel, it originally began on the BBC and before moving over to Netflix.
Set between the years of 866 to 878, it follow the journey of Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), a young nobleman raised by Vikings in 9th-century England.

But the arrival of the Great Heathen Army in England shakes up the relationship between Vikings and Anglo-Saxons.
The series centers around Uhtred’s journey to reclaim his ancestral lands while navigating the political and religious turmoil of the time – particularly the rise of King Alfred the Great (David Dawson) and the unification of England.
Based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories book series, the TV show in question is called The Last Kingdom.
While its most recent instalment – its movie titled Seven Kings Must Die – released in 2023, some fans are only just discovering the show.
You can watch the final season’s trailer below:
One Reddit user asked the R/BestOfNetflix community: “What TV shows had you so hooked that you couldn’t stop watching episode after episode?”
They continued: “I’m talking about the kind of shows where you sit down planning to watch just one episode… and suddenly it’s 3AM and you’ve finished half the season.”
“The Last Kingdom,” one person simply responded, as a second replied: “Came here to say that! I still think about that show. Stayed up way too late watching that!”
A third weighed in: “I was so happy when Netflix completed the series and adapted the last three books,” as another replied: “Me too! It’s my favorite show. But [the movie] felt rushed.”

Fans were left ‘obsessed’ (Netflix)
The praise continued over on Rotten Tomatoes, where the show racked up an impressive 91 percent score from critics across all five seasons.
Its third season racked up a flawless 100 percent, as one fan gushed: “I’m obsessed. Never seen a show this interesting and epic. No way to describe how it feels to watch this series again and again, specially Season 3 episode 9!”
Meanwhile, someone else said: “This series just keeps getting better as the years go by. If this type of genre is your taste, this should be on your watchlist.”

Netflix subscribers are still binge-watching a canceled drama which gets ‘better by the season.’
The world’s largest streaming service has a bit of a reputation for canceling shows after a season or two.
But then again, you’ve got those that have ran for a while – like Black Mirror and You – the latter of which has now aired its fifth and final season.
Still, with around 7,000 titles on its US platform, there are bound to be some TV shows you’ll have missed over the years.
Despite initially releasing in 2019, fans are still only just discovering this two-season horror which has left them wanting more.
It sounds like a mix of both the Harry Potter and Twilight sagas – in the best possible way.

Both seasons earned a perfect 100 percent RT score (Netflix)
Starring iZombie’s Jake Manley, the series follows college student Jack Morton as he joins the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose – a secret society that teaches and practices magic.
However, things get more complicated when Jack is forcibly initiated into a rival group – the Knights of Saint Christopher, werewolves who guard against the misuse of magic.
Over the course of the show’s two seasons, Jack navigates betrayal, shifting alliances and personal loss – all while attempting to protect the people he cares about.
The series in question is called The Order.
You can watch its trailer below:
Fans say the series blends fantasy, drama, and dark comedy which keeps them ‘on their toes.’ Better yet, both seasons have been rated a perfect 100 percent by Rotten Tomatoes critics.
Reviewers praised the show’s ‘tongue in cheek’ humor and its ‘engaging characters.’
Fans, meanwhile, reckoned the show got better with each season – and many were gutted to see it canceled.
“I enjoyed Season 1. Great story line & characters. Season 2 continues to keep us wanting more. There is just the right amount of humor and drama,” one person wrote.

A second described it ‘great binge watching material,’ as a third weighed in: “Great show with lots of unexpected twists. Totally binge worthy. Keeps you on your toes.”
Meanwhile, a fourth even said season two’s ‘plot and story arc’ was ‘even better’.
Sadly, The Order was canceled by Netflix in 2020 after its two seasons – most likely due to underperforming viewing figures.
However, if a season three had happened, then it would have been a wild ride if by what creator Dennis Heaton had to say about possible plot lines.
“PS – Jack was totally going to raise Alyssa from the dead, but she was going to come back wrong. Like, Pet Sematary wrong. Probably possessed by Zecchia. And a whole bunch of other corpses were coming back with her.” he wrote on Twitter.

Fans of a hospital drama have been wiping back tears as they get a chance to tune in to the popular show for its final season.
As we enter 2025, you know what that means – there’ll be new movies and TV shows for us to welcome the New Year.
That doesn’t mean to say that 2024 didn’t leave us out to dry, as many viewers were raving about a ‘unbelievable’ thriller and a true crime series that involves Barack Obama, an Elvis impersonator and a poison plot.
Netflix also ended the year by adding a hospital drama from 2018, which UK viewers were unable to watch – until now.

The NBC show recently arrived on Netflix (NBC)
The show is called New Amsterdam, and follows Dr Max Goodwin (Ryan Egghold) who joins one of the oldest public hospitals in New York as a medical director.
Unlike his predecessors, Goodwin is set on making some changes, rustling some feathers and doing all he can to remove bureaucracy, address neglect and ensure better care for its patients.
You can watch the trailer for season one here:
New Amsterdam concluded its fifth season at the start of 2023, however, it’s recent addition to the streaming platform has reinvigorated the love for the show on social media, with fans taking to Twitter to rave about it.
As you can imagine, the show often deals with sensitive subject matter and this has really resonated with some viewers, and some have gone as far to call the show ’11 out 10′.
One Twitter user joked: “My name is Rob and I’m a telly addict. I’ve just found New Amsterdam on Netflix. See you in a few weeks!

Another commented: “I introduced the wife to New Amsterdam on Netflix last night. I’ve seen most series already but 2 episodes in it already hits me in the feels.”
“Such a good series with so many heart string moments. I won’t lie though (no spoilers) I’m already prepping the tissues.”
Someone else commented that they ‘can’t get enough of this series’, while a fourth said: “New Amsterdam on Netflix 11 out of 10.”
A fifth viewer had high praise for the show’s overall premise, calling it an ‘amazing’ watch.
On Rotten Tomatoes, there isn’t a Tomatometer rating and it does hold a rather meh 50 percent popcorn meter rating. However, on IMDB, the show boasts a solid 8/10 following over 52,000 reviews.
So it might be worth binging yourself and seeing if the hospital antics resonate with you.
