Donald Trump responds to Elon Musk’s claim that his $500,000,000,000 AI project doesn’t have any funding

Elon Musk, the ‘first buddy’ to President Donald Trump, controversially went against his leader by claiming the $500 billion AI project the Republican plans on starting up doesn’t ‘actually have the money’.

The 78-year-old has now responded to Musk’s claim about Stargate – ‘the largest AI infrastructure project in history’, which has been backed by seven major companies, and supposedly a half a trillion dollar investment.

But before we get into that, let’s just quickly explain what the project is.

Stargate will see the construction of data centers in the US that will power AI.

The buildout is currently underway in Texas, but other potential sites are being scouted across the country as ‘definitive agreements’ are finalized.

This infrastructure will ‘secure American leadership in AI,’ create ‘hundreds of thousands of American jobs‘ and ‘generate massive economic benefit for the entire world,’ OpenAI – the company behind ChatGPT – claimed on its website.

“This project will not only support the re-industrialization of the United States but also provide a strategic capability to protect the national security of America and its allies,” it continued.

The three key players involved are Oracle CTO Larry Ellison, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son.

It was confirmed $100 billion of funding would be made available ‘immediately,’ with $500 billion to be invested in total by 2029.

The US is already a world-leader of artificial intelligence, and it appears Donald Trump is anxious to keep it that way.

“I’m going to help a lot through emergency declarations because we have an emergency,” he said.

So what did Musk tweet?

The tech billionaire has been critical of the project because of a decade-long feud with OpenAI boss Altman, and so took to his social media platform Twitter, to post: “They don’t actually have the money.”

Referring to Stargate, before later adding: “SoftBank has well under $10B secured. I have that on good authority.”

While signing a series of executive orders in the Oval Office, Trump was asked about Musk’s criticisms.

When asked whether he was bothered by Musk’s words, Trump replied: “No, he hates one of the people in the deal.”

He added: “People in the deal are very, very smart people. But Elon – one of the people, he happens to hate. But I have certain hatreds of people, too.”

Seven major businesses are involved with the project so far, including three of the world’s biggest technology firms.

Japan’s SoftBank and United Arab Emirates AI investment arm MGX are among Stargate’s initial equity funders, alongside OpenAI and computer giant Oracle.

Meanwhile semiconductor company Arm joins Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle and OpenAI as Stargate’s key technology partners.

Oracle, NVIDIA and OpenAI will ‘closely collaborate to build and operate’ the project’s computing system, while Microsoft will help ‘train leading models and deliver great products and services’.

Elon Musk was clearly happy when Trump mentioned Mars

Elon Musk was spotted giving an enthusiastic thumbs up during Donald Trump’s inaugural speech, which massively contrasted Barron Trump’s reaction.

People tuning into Donald Trump‘s inaugural speech were left gasping for air with laughter after the cameras showed Elon Musk and Barron Trump during the speech.

As Trump commented on America‘s goal of putting a person on Mars, Musk is seen giving a super enthusiastic thumbs up, while stood next to Barron Trump and applauding.

Barron on the other hand, looked pretty unfazed by the whole thing and doesn’t so much as give a smile. Take a look:

As you can imagine the clip of the moment has already started spreading on social media with many delighted by the night and day difference between the two men.

One user commented: “Barron Trump looked like he feared being the first person sent to Mars.”

While another wrote: “Barron Trump giving zero f**ks about Mars while standing next to Elon Muck.”

A third wrote: “Tuned into the Trump inauguration speech for literally less than a minute and was just in time to get this screen shot of Barron Trump looking like he wants to k*ll himself being stuck next to Elon Musk.”

With another adding: “I’m gonna assume Baron Trump is Not a fan of Elon Musk by what I just saw on cam lol.”

Now, it does make sense why Musk would be spotted applauding and beaming ear to ear based on what Trump said.

The now sworn-in-president said: “We will pursue our manifest destiny into the stars, launching American astronauts to plant the Stars and Stripes on the planet Mars.”

This is something Musk has publicly spoken about for years and a man on Mars is one of the goals he wishes to see achieved in his lifetime – despite the planet recently being deemed as ‘unsafe for humans to live’ by experts.

Despite the hopes of Musk, experts have also been clear of the many difficulties that starting a civilization on Mars could expect.

Last year David Kipping, the Assistant Professor, Department of Astronomy at Columbia University, spoke to Valuetainment and explained how some people have their doubts regarding Musk’s plans to put civilizations on the red planet.

He said: “Yeah, some of my colleague’s kind of think it’s ridiculous and think it’s just totally crazy that we’ll ever do this.”

However he did note that he had no issue with Musk putting his money into projects that could lead to Mars’ colonization.

He continued: “I get the philosophy. The philosophy is, as long as we’re all on planet Earth we’re at risk because all it takes is one giant meteor or one nuclear war or whatever cataclysm you want, and we’re all gone.

“So, if your objective is to preserve the species then it totally makes sense that you would want to have a second base and whether that base be on the moon or Mars, I don’t really have a strong opinion.”

Donald Trump has unveiled plans for the US to create ‘the largest AI infrastructure project in history,’ with the backing of seven major companies and a $500 billion investment.

Joined by three key players – Oracle CTO Larry Ellison, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son – the president set out details of the new company, named Stargate, during a White House news conference on Tuesday afternoon (January 21).

What is Stargate?

The buildout is currently underway in Texas, but other potential sites are being scouted across the country as ‘definitive agreements’ are finalized.

Concerns over AI demand

The increasing demand for major AI projects has raised some concern surrounding energy supplies, security and even the accuracy of the model’s intelligence.

Robert Weissman, co-president of consumer rights advocacy group Public Citizen, said the Stargate plan ‘raises massive antitrust concerns’ and stressed ‘attention must be paid to sustainability and consumer impacts’.

He added: “Absent a commitment to bring on new, renewable energy to power an even greater spike in AI power demand, the Stargate build out threatens to worsen the rush to climate catastrophe and to drive up consumer electric bills.

“The build out of new, renewable energy supply must be addressed before this surge in AI data centers and cannot be an afterthought.”

Weissman concluded: “Big Tech AI purveyors have consistently overpromised the real-world benefits they can offer while ignoring the real-world harms they are causing. That record should make us very skeptical about today’s announcement.”

How Donald Trump has already harmed Elon Musk, Tesla and a major Jeff Bezos investment

How Donald Trump has already harmed Elon Musk, Tesla and a major Jeff Bezos investment

The stock market is already reflecting some of President Trump’s new orders

Just four days into his presidency, Donald Trump has done damage to a market that both Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos sunk major investments in.

As two of the world’s richest men, they’re used to some healthy competition – like the space race, for example, with Musk’s SpaceX attempting to rival Bezos’ Blue Origin.

But it seems neither will be benefiting as the president rolled back Joe Biden’s electric vehicle policies after being sworn into office on Monday (January 20).

Trump wasted no time in signing off a raft of executive orders, including one against transgender people, that technically makes everyone in the US female.

On the automotive front, he revoked a 2021 Biden order that demanded EVs make up 50 percent of new cars by 2030.

The president had previously agreed to end federal tax credit for EV purchases, too, which cost up to $7,500 for new zero-emission vehicles and also $4,000 for used ones.

For Tesla CEO Musk, of course, this isn’t great news.

On Tuesday, Tesla shares fell as much as three percent, with investor confidence, understandably, knocked. But confident Musk agreed that EV subsidies should end, reckoning it would only have a ‘slight’ impact on his business.

He told analysts back in July, as per Yahoo! Finance: “I guess that there would be, like, some impact, but I think it would be devastating for our competitors and for Tesla slightly.

“But long term probably actually helps Tesla, would be my guess, yes … the value of Tesla overwhelmingly is autonomy.”

Interestingly, Musk is also part of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is tasked with advising the White House to slash ‘federal spending.’

Tesla’s stock wasn’t the only one feeling the pinch on Tuesday, as EV charging company EVgo and Tesla rival Rividian also saw a drop in share prices.

And this too spells trouble for Amazon founder Bezos.

The billionaire is a major investor in Rivian, a company that began trading in 2009, some six years after Tesla began its journey as Tesla Motors in 2003.

According to some reports, Amazon owns a stake of up to 15 percent stake in Rivian after apparently investing $700 million into its car making plans.

The company reportedly received a $6.6 billion loan from Biden’s government only a mere two months ago and recently partnered with Volkswagen to produce an electric Ford backed by Biden.

But a flurry of obstacles – including supply chain issues and high interest rates – saw its production rate slow down.

However, analysts last year predicted Rivian’s growth could ‘accelerate over the next three years,’ with plans to launch a ‘cheaper’ R2 SUV in 2026 and two higher-end RVs by 2027.

Grimes addresses ex Elon Musk’s gesture after he was accused of giving ‘Nazi salute’ at Trump rally

“I will not make a statement every time he does something”

Elon Musk’s ex Grimes issued a lengthy statement after the tech billionaire was accused of making a ‘Nazi salute’ during President Trump’s inauguration.

On Monday (January 20), Donald Trump was officially sworn into the White House as the 47th President of the United States and for his second term since 2021.

However, during his inauguration celebration, the Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder, Musk, appeared to make a ‘Nazi salute’ in the Capitol One Arena, Washington.

The 53-year-old appeared to be thrilled about the prospect of sending a man to Mars and planting an American flag, during which the X owner thumped his chest and shot his right arm out towards the sky.

The world’s richest man commented: “Thank you for making it happen. Thank you, my heart goes out to you,” before turning back to the audience and repeating the bizarre gesture towards the American flag.

Dozens of viewers flooded social media with their thoughts on the matter, accusing Musk of making a ‘Sieg Heil’ as clear as day’ – and not only once, but twice.

Meanwhile Tesla owners were left uncomfortable by Musk’s actions.

Musk himself addressed the comments on his Twitter account, while the Anti-Defamation League claimed it was an ‘awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm’ as opposed to a ‘Nazi salute’.

Now, singer Grimes – who shares children X Æ A-Xii, 4, Exa Dark Sideræl, 3, and Techno Mechanicus, 2 with the tech entrepreneur – has addressed the situation.

She issued a lengthy response via X after a fan threatened to unfollow the Canadian native and ‘cover up’ their tattoo of her.

“It is unhealthy that people are this upset when I have not even been online yet today and am only just learning about this controversy now,” Grimes – who dated Musk between 2018 and 2022 – began.

The musician vowed to research the incident in more detail before properly responding, adding: “It’s absurd that someone can be this cancelled for something their ex did before they even heard it happened.

“I am not him. I will not make a statement every time he does something. I can only send love back into a world that is hurting.”

She added she wasn’t asking for ‘sympathy,’ continuing in part: “I choose my children’s wellbeing. I promise you it doesn’t feel good to be hated all the time for things I don’t even know about, cannot predict and cannot control.

“But I also chose this path, I accept it. I make the best of it, and I simply wish happiness and health to all.”

Grimes and Musks’ youngest two children were born via surrogate and in 2021, while X Æ A-Xii was born naturally.

In 2021, the year their daughter Exa arrived, Musk also welcomed twins with Neuralink director Shivon Zilis.

He and Zilis welcomed a third child last year.

Grimes had previously told Vanity Fair she and ‘love of my life’ Musk had always wanted ‘at least three or four’ children.

Musk has a total of 12 kids with three different women.
