If you were lucky enough to bag a PlayStation 5 for Christmas but have been running into an issue then you’re not alone.
You’ve sat down after a long day in the office, you’ve made snacks, grabbed a drink and picked up your PS5‘s DualSense controller to get stuck into the latest stint of Hogwarts Legacy alas, you’ve barely made it close to the third round of Crossed Wands Dueling Club when an issue arises.
Your controller dies – and it’s always just as you get to that pivotal moment in the game.
It’s an all too familiar tale for a lot of PS5 players, and an experience that can make gaming feel far less seamless.
I mean, you can always plug in the PS5 controller and game away, but the majority of gamers would argue it’s a more enjoyable experience playing wireless.
Thankfully, there are two simple setting changes you can make to help provide a more enjoyable gaming experience.
The US Sun reveals there are some simple ways of boosting your DualSense battery life, and they couldn’t be easier to implement.

First, set the controller to automatically switch off when it’s not being used. This can be done by heading into Settings, selecting ‘System’ and then ‘Power Saving’.
You can also ensure your mic is muted to stop it from constantly being on in the background and draining your battery.
While these two changes should make a significant difference to your controller’s battery life, you can boost it even further with one extra change.
Reducing the intensity of the haptic feedback will also help.
You can do this by heading to the Control Center, selecting ‘Accessories’ followed by ‘DualSense Wireless Controller’.
Then, select ‘Controller Settings’, followed by ‘Vibration Intensity’ and finally, ‘Trigger Effect Intensity’.

While the PS5 console offers a brilliant experience regardless, altering your settings ever so slightly can make a big difference.
To have your games looking their absolute best, you can also change some settings on your console.
You’ll first need to understand whether your TV supports HGiG or not.
Tom’s Guide explains that if your TV does support it, it’s better to enable HGiG – which stands for HDR Gaming Interest Group – in order to ‘get the most accurate tone mapping in games that support the feature’.
According to Tom’s Guide, you can leave the setting on and it shouldn’t affect other games – i.e. ones that don’t support HGiG.
Once HGiG is enabled, you can then go to ‘Adjust HDR’. You’ll then need to follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the HDR.

Sony has given gamers a glimpse of what the upcoming Playstation controller will look like.
Things have come a long way since the first iconic design for the original Playstation.
The controllers started with that signature battleship grey, before switching up to black for the sleeker new PS2 when the follow-up console was released.
For the PS3, things were still broadly the same – after all, why fix what’s not broken, right?
The third console was the first to make the controller wireless, rendering accidentally pulling the plug out in a moment of jubilation or frustration a thing of the past.
But it was at the PS4 that the design saw its first major overhaul.
Now, the older controller was given a sleeker new body designed to have a more ergonomic grip.
A touch pad was also added in the centre of the controller, which while sleeker, was still strongly reflective of the classic 90s look.
The PS5 controller consolidated on this, making an even elegant design for Sony’s latest iteration of the console.

Now, the corporation has offered a teaser for what the next console might look like.
Needless to say, it’s left gamers rather divided. Though, in fairness, you could say that about more or less anything in the world of gaming.
So what does this idea for a new controller look like?
Well, it seemingly takes inspiration from minimalism, to the point where it barely looks like there’s a controller at all.
Those classic buttons are still there, along with the joysticks.
But it seems that the new controller is missing a middle, with a large ring connecting the two sets of buttons to each other and leaving a hole in the middle.
But that’s not it, as the buttons themselves also seem to have gone, replaced instead with trackpads on either side of the controller.

Needless to say, people had a lot of opinions and took to social media to share them.
One wrote: “This next gen rush is really bothering me, I’m getting old and needing the newest and best thing on the market is draining. Fomo Capitalism is draining. I just want a good system that plays amazing triple A’s for a decade, that doesn’t have overheating problems or cheap HDMI’s and disk drives.”
A second posted: “Bro we are taking about PlayStation which has had the exact same controller for nearly 30 years. They’re not going to replace the dpad lol.”
Someone else highlighted a different problem, writing: “Most are playing PS4 games on the PS5. There’s not many proper PS5 games and yet they want to start talking about a new console?”

PlayStation 5 owners are being urged to make a tiny change to their settings in order to optimize their gaming experience.
While the console offers a brilliant experience regardless, altering your settings ever so slightly can make a big difference, and have your games looking their best.
And it’s really easy to do.
To make the change, you’ll first need to understand whether your telly supports HGiG or not.
Tom’s Guide explains that if your TV does support it, it’s better to enable HGiG – which stands for HDR Gaming Interest Group – in order to ‘get the most accurate tone mapping in games that support the feature’.
One game that supports this is Spider-Man: Miles Morales – and what a game it is. Not that the game needed any improvement, but if you can swing from building to building with the best quality possible, why wouldn’t you?
Tom’s Guide explains that you can leave the setting on and it shouldn’t affect other games – ie ones that don’t support HGiG.
Once HGiG is enabled, you can then go to ‘Adjust HDR’. You’ll then need to follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the HDR.

Another setting to change is VRR – aka Variable Refresh Rate – which is a new feature that lets the TV adjust its refresh rate in relation to the PlayStation’s frame rate output.
There are two options to toggle from – off and automatic. If your telly supports it, you can leave it on automatic, but if not, it’s best to turn it off.
VRR ultimately allows smoother playback, which will result in fewer lags.
According to Tom’s Guide, simply making these two adjustments should have your games looking their absolute best.
Just imagine playing Hogwarts Legacy with even better graphics?
Speaking of the popular game – which sold a whopping 22 million copies by the end of last year – gamers have started hearing whispers of a sequel.
Warner Bros. had hinted at more Harry Potter games, but had yet to officially commit to it.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
The next Harry Potter game is set to be Quidditch Champions – a title that has been in beta, but still has no official release date.
But in a new interview, Warner Bros. gaming boss, David Haddad, has shared some news.
“We don’t have any particular announcements on exactly how and when [the Quidditch game] is going to come to the market, but we are working to get it designed in a way just to delight fans,” Haddad told Variety.
He continued: “A very consistent message coming from the executive layer of Warner Bros. Discovery is the importance of franchise.
“There’s a unique and important role games have in keeping our franchises relevant, resonant and exciting because there’s plenty of fans and plenty of people consuming content where games are their starting point, it’s their preferred form of content.”
This sounds promising!

Users of Twitter have been urged to make a change to their account settings after the platform introduced a new feature.
In the past Twitter, which is also known as X, was mainly used for microblogging, tweeting small posts out as well as having direct message features, videos and suchlike.
But now the platform has introduced a new feature which allows users to actually call each other, like you might in WhatsApp.
However, this feature has already met with a pretty glaring problem which has concerned people, with many urging Twitter users to make a crucial change in their settings.
It’s actually rather important, as it’s a matter of staying safe while online.
The change that users have been urged to make is to go into their settings, then into ‘privacy and safety’, and finally into ‘direct messages’.
If you scroll down there, you will see a switch that says ‘enhanced call privacy’, that’s the one to check.

The risk of the feature becomes very apparent from the description underneath the toggle.
This reads: “Enable this setting to avoid revealing your IP address to your contact during your call.”
For those who don’t know, your IP address stands for ‘Internet Protocol’, and is used for a number things online.
But a big thing that your IP address reveals about you is your physical location, and this is likely to be something that you don’t want to reveal to people online.
In fact, ‘doxxing’, or posting someone’s personal information publicly, often includes revealing a physical location.
Revealing an IP address via a call could pose a safeguarding risk, as well as risking users who are unaware of the feature unwittingly revealing their location.

Many users piled into the comments to share their views on the feature.
One wrote: “Any of ya’ll call me from twitter, I’m blocking you LMAO. Who the hell gonna use twitter for phone/video calls, that’s akin to ordering Italian food at a Mexican restaurant.”
A second tweeted: “‘Enhanced call privacy’ more like ‘the literal bare minimum privacy’.”
A third wrote: “Amazing add a new feature. Immediately make it be able to dox you by default.”
Information on Twitter’s help centre described the feature, saying: “Enhanced call privacy is a new setting on X that helps protect your privacy. With this setting enabled, your IP address will be hidden from people you call and receive calls from.”

As iPhone users get to grips with the new iOS 18 update, there are actually five settings you can change to make the experience even better.
You wouldn’t be alone in thinking that not much seems to really change between iOS updates.
But the new iOS 18 update has really changed the way we can utilise our iPhones, after it was unveiled at Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference earlier this year.
Highlights for users included total customisation of the Home Screen and a brand new Photos app – albeit not everyone is too pleased with that one.
Downloads officially began on Monday (September 16), but users have already worked our that there are five things you can change in settings to further better the general experience.

Optimized Battery Charging
Whilst this feature was already introduced way back when iOS 13 was launched, it seems as though iOS 18 is giving users greater customisation abilities.
The purpose of the technology is to expand the life span of the iPhone’s battery, by reducing the time spent that it is fully charged.
iOS 17 introduced an 80% charging limit, but iOS 18 has even more to offer.
After downloading the update, head to Settings, click Battery and scroll to Charging and turn on Optimized Battery Charging.
Once toggled, you will be able to select limits like 85 percent and 95 percent.
Turn on RCS Messaging
Gone are the days of the iPhone vs Android saga – they are over.
Messaging your Android user friends from an iPhone is about to get a whole lot easier.
iOS 18 is officially supporting RCS Messaging (Rich Communication Services), which Apple claims will help support ‘more reliable group messaging compared to SMS and MMS’.
You will be able to send high-resolution images and videos to your Android friends, as well as receiving read receipts when you’re texting.
To turn on RCS Messaging, click on Settings, find your Apps toggle, head into Messages and find RCS Messaging.

Change Lock Screen Shortcuts
One of the major selling points of iOS 18 is the customisation features.
So, if you found the flashlight and camera shortcuts on your lock screen a bit of an annoyance, you can finally switch them out.
Instead, you could have one for music and one for your alarm… way more practical!
To change the lock screen shortcuts, first press and hold on the Lock Screen before tapping on ‘Customise’.
Click the ‘Lock Screen’ option and then you can edit the two options in the bottom left and right of the screen.
Turn off Shared with You
Shared with You was a feature introduced by iOS 15, allowing iPhone users to automatically gather together any content your contacts have sent over.
But whilst it’s a handy little tool, it’s easy to understand why some would find it slightly intrusive.
So, you can now turn it off!
To do so, find Settings, head through Apps and select the Messages button before scrolling down to find Shared with You.
Hide App labels
You can now customise your layout and organise your iPhone exactly the way you want.
Meaning app labels can be a thing of the past, if you prefer just to have the icon.
To do so, simply press and hold on the Home Screen until the Edit button appears.
Once present, click Customize and then Large. The latter setting will remove the text.
