Audience narrowly avoids injuries after fighting bull leaps barrier during event

Dramatic images show a bull at Mexico City’s Anniversary Fair leaping the barriers towards spectators – and the moment has caused heated debate online.

On January 19, the 2025 Anniversary Fair kicked off at José Garfias ‘Hechicero’ ranch in Mexico City and the very first bullfight saw one of the animals jump the barriers.

Footage shared to Instagram by a user called @michael_film_ shows a torero named Spanish matador Borja Jiménez using a bright pink cloth – known as the capote de brega – to maneuver the bull around the ring.

The bull appears to be under the torero’s control, however, whether before or after it was taken, the bull ended up running towards the barriers surrounding the ring and leaping over.

Images from the event show the bull cascading over the red wall and flying towards the audience, sending people leaping up from their seats and some running away.

PEOPLE reports no human was injured as a result of the bull jumping the barrier.

However, the incident has sparked heated debate online.

One Instagram user said: “Why this is still allowed amazes me as it’s animal cruelty.”

“Good! Stop animal cruelty. They are fighting back!” another added.

A third commented: “Good – this so called sport needs to end.”

“Good. This isn’t a sport it’s animal cruelty,” a fourth added.

A fifth said: “Is the bull okay?”

Indeed, the discourse against bullfighting is one which has been ongoing for some time, with ‘approximately 250,000 bulls’ killed every year,’ according to Humane Society International.

It states on its website: “Every year, approximately 250,000 bulls are killed in bullfights. Bullfighting is already banned by law in many countries including Argentina, Canada, Cuba, Denmark, Italy and the United Kingdom.

“Although legal in Spain, some Spanish cities, such as Calonge, Tossa de Mar, Vilamacolum and La Vajol, have outlawed the practice of bullfighting. There are only a few countries throughout the world where this practice still takes place (Spain, France, Portugal, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, and Ecuador).”

In Mexico, PETA says the states of Quintana Roo, Sonora, Guerrero and Coahuila have banned bullfighting, with Mexico City having banned it ‘indefinitely’ in 2022.

In bullfighting, the bull is reported as typically being stabbed to death with a sword by the matador or sometimes it’s allowed to be released if it performs well.

It’s not clear what happened to this bull after the fight.

Audience walks out during Richard Dreyfuss Jaws event after he makes shocking 'bigoted comments'

Audience walks out during Richard Dreyfuss Jaws event after he makes shocking ‘bigoted comments’

Richard Dreyfuss had been appearing at a screening but some members of the audience ‘walked out’ over his alleged comments

Members of the audience ‘walked out’ of a Jaws screening with star Richard Dreyfuss due to the star’s alleged remarks.

The 76-year-old appeared at a Q&A at the Cabot Theatre in Massachusetts on May 25 about the making of 1975 movie Jaws – in which he famously played marine biologist, Matt Hooper.

The event also included a screening of the film.

However, audience members reportedly walked out of the venue due to the actor allegedly going on a ‘racist homophobic misogynist rant’, one attendee alleged.

Those who went to the event, as reported by The Boston Globe, claimed that Dreyfuss quickly ‘went off the rails’ into a bigoted speech on various topics, including the MeToo movement, LGBTQ+ rights, and women in film.

Sarah Hogg, who went with their partner Jonah Hoffman, said they were ‘thrilled to see Richard Dreyfuss speak about his experience filming ‘Jaws’, but ultimately that ‘is not at all the experience that we got’.

After alleged misogynistic comments about women in Hollywood from Dreyfuss, Hogg said: “Then it just got so quickly off the rails.”

A video from the event sees the American Graffiti star walk onto the stage in a breakaway dress to a Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story’.

According to fellow attendee Diane Wolf, Dreyfuss allegedly said that ‘the parents of trans youth, allowing them to transition, was bad parenting and that someday those kids might change their minds’ – at which point, Hogg say they left the theatre with their partner, along with others.

As per Sky News, another attendee wrote on Facebook: “We walked out of his interview tonight along with hundred of others because of his racist homophobic misogynistic rant.”

On May 27, the venue apologised in a statement for what had occurred, saying the alleged remarks made by Dreyfuss ‘do not reflect the values of inclusivity and respect that we uphold as an organization’.

They said: “We are aware of, and share serious concerns, following the recent event with Richard Dreyfuss prior to a screening of the film Jaws at The Cabot.

“The views expressed by Mr. Dreyfuss do not reflect the values of inclusivity and respect that we uphold as an organization.

“We deeply regret the distress that this has caused to many of our patrons. We regret that an event that was meant to be a conversation to celebrate an iconic movie instead became a platform for political views.

“We take full responsibility for the oversight in not anticipating the direction of the conversation and for the discomfort it caused to many patrons.”

Their statement concluded that they were in ‘active dialogue’ with patrons and are ‘committed to learning from this event how to better enact our mission of entertaining, educating and inspiring our community’.

It’s not the first time that Dreyfuss has made remarks which have caused controversy.

In an interview on PBS’ Firing Line, the Close Encounters of The Third Kind star criticised the inclusion and diversity policies at the Oscars, saying: “They [diversity and inclusion rules] make me vomit. Because this is an art form.

“It’s also a form of commerce, and it makes money. But it’s an art.

“And no one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is.”

UNILAD has reached out to Dreyfuss’s representatives for comment.

Shocking footage shows zookeeper narrowly escape after being chased around enclosure by bear

Shocking footage shows zookeeper narrowly escape after being chased around enclosure by bear

“Eventually something more severe is going to happen in the future if they continue on the same path”

CCTV has captured the horrifying moment a zookeeper had a near-miss with a grizzly bear.

Being a zookeeper is no easy feat. Not only do you have to know the ins and outs of taking care of some of the world’s most impressive and endangered animals, but you also have to know how to cope should you ever find yourself being chased round an enclosure by a gorilla or even a grizzly bear

The San Francisco Chronicle has recently uncovered an incident which took place between a keeper and an animal from May 2023.

The outlet revealed a zookeeper in San Francisco Zoo came face-to-face with a brown grizzly bear named Kiona after thinking he’d locked the door but not realising its lock could allegedly be fastened without being fully shut.

So, stood in the keeper area, the keeper heard footsteps and turned around expecting to see his colleague, but instead found a 500-pound bear eyeing him up.

A CCTV recording from the time of the incident shows the moment Kiona wandered through to the keeper area and then the moment the keeper can be spotted dashing away – a pair of sprinting legs just about visible passing through the doorway.

Thankfully, after a lap around the grotto, the keeper reportedly managed to get to a safe area, leaving the bear back in the keeper area.

Kiona was later encouraged back to her bear lair and the locks properly secured after other keepers came to the scene to help out the understandably shaken first employee.

It’s reported the bear was never at risk of going near visitors as a result of a gate, regular door and chain-link barrier standing in her way.

No one was hurt in the incident, but the assistant curator of the zoo’s carnivore department at the time, Travis Shields, who also oversaw the bear department, told the Chronicle: “Eventually something more severe is going to happen in the future if they continue on the same path.”

A board member of the nonprofit membership organization that helps operate the zoo for the city – San Francisco Zoological Society – named Edward Poole has since responded to claims.

Poole said: “One of our zookeepers entered the grizzly bear’s habitat area at a time when it was believed that the bear was restricted to another part of its containment area.

“Due to a number of safety measures employed, the situation was quickly resolved. This incident underscores our steadfast commitment to ensuring the welfare of both our staff and the animals in our care.”

Zookeeper logs also documented the locks on the bear’s enclosure as being updated soon after the incident.

A spokesperson from San Francisco Zoo told UNILAD: “On May 13th, 2023, due to a miscommunication, one of our zookeepers was in the Grizzly bear’s habitat area at a time when it was believed that the bear was restricted to another part of its containment area. This was quickly rectified without injuries to the zookeeper or the bear. At no time did the Grizzly Bear escape.

“We are confident about our staff and animal safety measures. The San Francisco Zoo conducts several safety drills per year and attends industry-wide meetings to continuously improve our safety protocols. We have a buddy system and other safety protocols where potentially dangerous animals reside, which our animal management team reviews so we can constantly update our protocols.”

Demi Moore snaps at audience as she introduces Cher at star-studded event

Demi Moore took to the stage to introduce Cher, only to take a moment to scold the audience during her speech

Demi Moore snapped at audience members during a talk and introduction at the amfAR gala.

The Ghost star had been introducing pop icon Cher to the stage at the gala in France when one member of the audience seemingly drew her ire at the event.

Beginning her introduction, Moore told the audience: “I’m going to see if this is the moment we’ve all been waiting for.”

She continued: “I’m just making sure that you’re really, really with me. Because this incredible woman that I’m about to introduce – she’s a Grammy winner, an Oscar winner, an Emmy winner.”

It was at this point that someone in the audience appeared to draw Moore’s attention, as she stopped herself short.

Breaking the silence, Moore addressed somebody, though it was not entirely clear precisely who it was exactly that she was speaking to.

So, what did she tell this person?

Speaking in no uncertain terms, Moore interrogated the audience member, rhetorically asking them: “Are you an Emmy winner over there in the back of the room? I f**king don’t think so.”

It sounds a bit like headteacher scolding a talkative student during assembly, doesn’t it?

Except with more F-bombs, maybe, depending on the teacher.

The comment drew a mixture of reactions from the audience, including one of shock of course, but also with some applause as well.

Moore continued with her speech introducing Cher to the stage.

Moore said: “She’s a style icon and my personal hair inspiration. And she was was honored by amfAR for their award of inspiration in 2015.

“The bottom line is she is just one of the most talented, successful, and best-loved performers of all time.”

Getting to the introduction she added: “So please,” then took another uncomfortably long pause before continuing: “Please give a warm welcome to the incredible, one and only, Cher.”

People took to the comments to share their thoughts on the introduction.

One person questioned why Demi Moore had kept making pauses in her introduction, writing: “Why did she keep pausing like that? What a weird way to introduce Cher?”

Another commended Moore on the way that she spoke to the audience member, commenting: “She said, I will treat you like a child until you learn respect.”

One fan even drew a parallel between Demi Moore and Cher, remarking that the way she made the introduction was reminiscent of Cher.

They wrote: “Her giving major Cher while introducing Cher is so ICONIC!”

Cameraman goes viral for being 'more impressive' than the athlete during javelin throw event

Cameraman goes viral for being ‘more impressive’ than the athlete during javelin throw event

Olympic gold medallist Thomas Röhler almost killed a cameraman when he launched a javelin over 90 meters

A cameraman has been dubbed ‘more impressive’ than the athletes he is filming.

We all know the cameraman doesn’t die, don’t we? If you’re ever in danger, whip out your phone and start recording – you can survive avalanches, giant waves in the sea and even volcanic eruptions.

Well, it’s a dangerous world when the person behind the camera knows that too – imagine all kinds of tomfoolery they could get up to… or out of.

One cameraman knows exactly that, and has balls of steel.

Stood at the head of the field recording a javelin throw event, a man films German track and field athlete Thomas Röhler taking part in the Wanda Diamond League.

Well, the footage was taken back in May 2017 when Röhler was competing head-to-head for the win against fellow German compatriot, Johannes Vetter, in Doha, Qatar.

Vetter landed a score of 89m and looked to be clear of any competition – with throws exceeded 90m extremely rare.

But Röhler, the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic gold medallist in the javelin throw event, launched the spear so far that he landed a monster score of 93.90m.

What is even more incredible is that the cameraman he almost nearly speared is believed to have took it upon himself before the competition to move back a few feet for safety.

The video has since gone viral, especially after it was uploaded to Twitter where the cameraman’s fans went wild.

One user commented: “It’s incredible how he just stood there doing his job as if nothing was at stake.”

While another joked: “No wonder it said “cameramen never die in wars”. They are heroes.”

But it didn’t stop there, someone said: “Cameramen are the unsung heroes of the entertainment industry!”

It kept coming, another person joked: “I think he was aiming for that cameraman. Had a beef with him.

“You didn’t shoot my throw yesterday. Go away. Take that. Missed.”

Meanwhile one user was also impressed with the camera operator whose footage was being used to almost capture their counterpart’s near-death experience.

They said: “Which one?? The one who stood there as if a straight up spear wasn’t coming straight at them or the one who caught it’s descent perfectly.”

Speaking later in an interview, Röhler explained that all camera operators are currently safe over the 100-meter mark, adding it would be better if they did shoot a few meters back.

However, the 100 meter was broken back in 1984 but since then, the javelin has been altered.
