Tom Hanks has shared his thoughts on his daughter’s candid admissions shared in her memoir.
In April, E.A. Hanks released her book The 10: A Memoir of Family And The Open Road.
E.A. (real name Elizabeth Anne) is Hollywood actor Hanks’ only daughter whom he shared with his late ex wife, Samantha Lewes. He also welcomed a son, Colin Hanks, with Lewes. Colin has followed in his father’s acting footsteps and has starred in movies & TV shows like Fargo, Jumanji: The Next Level, and Good Guys.
Lewes and Hanks officially divorced in 1987. She later died of lung cancer at the age of 49 in 2002.
Hanks has since remarried and has been with fellow actor Rita Wilson for almost four decades. The celebrity couple share sons Chet and Truman.

Chet and Truman had very different upbringings to their half-siblings E.A. and Colin as their mother, Lewes, had mental health struggles.
E.A. detailed her hard childhood in her memoir. Speaking about her parents divorce and how her mother’s wellbeing declined afterwards, E.A. penned: “Eventually a divorce agreement was settled, and I would visit my dad and stepmother (and soon enough my younger half brothers) on the weekends and during summers, but from 5 to 14, years filled with confusion, violence, deprivation, and love, I was a Sacramento girl.”
She continued: “I lived in a white house with columns, a backyard with a pool, and a bedroom with pictures of horses plastered on every wall.
“As the years went on, the backyard became so full of dog sh*t that you couldn’t walk around it, the house stank of smoke.
“The fridge was bare or full of expired food more often than not, and my mother spent more and more time in her big four-poster bed, poring over the Bible.”
Now Toy Story alum Hanks has responded to his daughter’s candid admissions.

Speaking to Access Hollywood at the premiere of his new Wes Anderson movie The Phoenician Scheme, Hanks said of how he feels about his daughter’s tell-all book: “It’s a pride because, I think, she shares it with me, she’s been very open about what the process is.”
He continued: “I’m not surprised that my daughter had the wherewithal, as well as the curiosity, as well as, I’m going to say, perhaps, the shoot herself in the foot, wherewithal, in order to examine this thing that she was incredibly honest about.
“We all come from checkered, cracked lives, all of us, despite the fact that part of it would seem as though, she would work for some international well-known firm with a copyrighted last name.
“She knows that and she leads into absolutely everything of it and I think anyone who does that is a bold journalistic literary mind and I’m thrilled I can say the same thing about my daughter.”

Elizabeth Hanks, the daughter of legendary actor Tom Hanks, has opened up on her seemingly turbulent childhood in a new memoir.
The Saving Private Ryan star had Elizabeth and brother Colin with his ex-wife, the late Samantha Lewes.
Hanks went on to welcome two more children – Chet and Truman Hanks – with his current spouse Rita Wilson.
Hanks and Lewes went their separate ways in 1985, with Elizabeth, who now goes by E.A. for Elizabeth Anne, detailing what life was like back then in her new book, The 10: A Memoir of Family And The Open Road.
In an excerpt obtained by People, E.A. penned: “I am a kid from the First (non-famous) Marriage. My only memories of my parents in the same place at the same time are Colin’s high school graduation, then my high school graduation.
“I have one picture of me standing between my parents. In it, my mother’s best wig is slightly askew.”

E.A. then wrote about her childhood and the disturbing ‘violence’ she endured.
“Eventually a divorce agreement was settled, and I would visit my dad and stepmother (and soon enough my younger half brothers) on the weekends and during summers, but from 5 to 14, years filled with confusion, violence, deprivation, and love, I was a Sacramento girl,” she continued.
“I lived in a white house with columns, a backyard with a pool, and a bedroom with pictures of horses plastered on every wall.”
Speaking further about her mother’s mental wellbeing, who died in 2002 from cancer, E.A. added: “The backyard became so full of dog s**t that you couldn’t walk around it, the house stank of smoke.
“The fridge was bare or full of expired food more often than not, and my mother spent more and more time in her big four-poster bed, poring over the Bible.
“One night, her emotional violence became physical violence, and in the aftermath, I moved to Los Angeles, right smack in the middle of the seventh grade.”

E.A continued: “When I was 14, my mother and I drove across America along Interstate 10 to Florida, in a Winnebago that lumbered along the asphalt with a rolling gait that felt nautical.
“My senior year of high school, she called to say she was dying.”
For those hoping to read the memoir in full, you won’t have to wait long as The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road releases on Tuesday (April 8).

Hollywood actor Tom Hanks definitely made a genius decision when he reportedly decided to insert a specific clause into his Forrest Gump contract.
In 1993, Hanks, then 37, nabbed the role in Robert Zemeckis’ award-winning movie after Grease star John Travolta decided to turn the part down.
The California native – who also beat out Bill Murray, Chevy Chase and Matthew Broderick to the role – began portraying the titular character in August of the same year and eventually went on to win Best Actor at the 1995 Academy Awards.
If you’ve yet to see 1994’s Forrest Gump or just want a refresher, check out the iconic trailer below:
The movie follows the life of an Alabama man named Forrest and chronicles friendship, love and loss in the 20th-century United States.
During the course of the movie, Forrest joins the U.S. Army and is sent to serve in Vietnam, becomes a shrimper and tells President John F. Kennedy that he needs to use the bathroom.
Starring alongside Hanks, now 67, in the charming movie was Robin Wright, 58, Mykelti Williamson, 67, and Gary Sinise, 69, among others.
Ahead of the film’s cinematic release, the Elvis actor reportedly negotiated a specific clause in his contract which would allow him to take home earnings based on a portion of box office receipts.
This was instead of receiving a flat fee for his acting role – a pretty risky move, right?

Thankfully though it paid off for Hanks as he reportedly took home $40 million from the 1994 project.
This was bolstered by the extra earnings he and Zemeckis raked in after investing their own funds in Forrest Gump to keep scenes in the flick Paramount Pictures supposedly weren’t willing to pay for.
Following Forrest Gump’s triumphant cinematic release, the movie became the film house’s fastest-grossing offering, passing records of $100 million and $200 million.
And as Awards Season swung around, it took home six Oscar gongs including Best Picture, Best Director and the previously-mentioned Best Actor.
Unfortunately, Hanks has never shared his official records of Forrest Gump earnings but reports from Business Insider have previously claimed he could’ve taken home around $60,000.
According to Collider, Forrest Gump is Hanks’ fourth-highest-grossing movie – with the Worldwide Box Office Gross landing at $678,226,465.
Only 2006’s The Da Vinci Code ($760,006,945), Toy Story 3 ($1,067,316,101) and Toy Story 4 ($1,073,841,394) earned more at the box office.

Almost two decades after they worked on a movie together, Dakota Fanning still gets a birthday present every year from Tom Cruise.
And to think, some people are lucky to get so much as a ‘happy birthday’ from their current co-workers.
Fanning opened up about her birthday tradition with Cruise during a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she discussed the milestone of turning 30 in February.
The actor was just six-years-old when she got her first on-screen credit in an episode of ER, and over the years she’s starred in a number of major titles including Man on Fire, Uptown Girls, Friends, The Twilight Saga and Ripley.
Her career has seen Fanning work with all sorts of big names, and when she was 10-years-old she began working with Cruise on the 2005 movie War of the Worlds.
Fanning recalled turning 11 while working on the movie and explained that Cruise gave her a gift that would be a milestone in any young person’s life.

She said: “I turned 11 on War of the Worlds when we worked together and he gave me my first cell phone for that birthday. It was a Motorola Razr.”
If you’re not familiar with one of the coolest phones of the noughties, the Razr was an iconic flip phone.
Fanning admitted she ‘didn’t have anyone’ to call, but she was desperate to get her hands on one of the phones, and Cruise delivered.
The actor described the birthday as a ‘great memory’, but in the years since the cell phone Cruise has switched to a different birthday gift for his former co-star.

Fanning explained: “He always sends me the same thing every year, after the cell phone.
“I loved shoes when I was little, and started to be able to fit in to really small adult shoes when I was on the War of the Worlds press tour, so I was very excited about them, and so from that birthday on he always sends me shoes.”
Clarkson pointed out Fanning must have a ‘massive shoe collection’, all brought to her by Tom Cruise himself.
If the Top Gun actor has stuck to his tradition every year since her 12th birthday, Fanning must have gained at least 19 pairs of shoes on behalf of the movie star.
Granted, the first few probably don’t fit anymore, but it’s still an impressive collection nonetheless!

Hollywood romances can mean some celebrities have dated each other, and even gotten close to walking up the aisle.
For A Family Affair actress Nicole Kidman, she’s now happily loved up with singer Keith urban but she was also previously married to Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise.

However, another of Kidman’s previous relationships has now resurfaced, as fans are stunned to know that she once dated rockstar legend, Lenny Kravitz.
The couple were rumoured to be close in 2003 after her divorce from Tom Cruise, but neither Kidman or Kravitz confirmed the romance leaving many wondering if they were an item or not.
However, in 2017, she confirmed that she and Kravitz had dated and even got engaged at one point.
Speaking to Net-A-Porter’s The Edit about her close bond with actress Zoe Kravitz, she explained: “Well, I knew Zoe because I was engaged to her father. It’s all in the family!”
In the past, Kidman has also hinted about the possible romance, but indicated that it failed as they ‘weren’t ready’.
In 2007 she told Vanity Fair: “I got engaged to somebody… but it just wasn’t right. I wasn’t ready. We weren’t ready.”
She added that she looks for a ‘deep connection’ with partners as she continued: “I get engaged and I get married – that’s my thing,” she said at the time. “I don’t want to date. I’m interested in a very, very deep connection.”
As fans are left reeling as they picture Kidman and Kravitz together, they’ve shared their shock on social media.
One person wrote on Twitter: “Obsessed with the fact that Nicole Kidman was secretly engaged to Lenny Kravitz, remained close with Zoe Kravitz and was at her wedding for non-Big Little Lies reasons.”

Another shared: “Every now and than I think about how these two human beings used to be engaged and it throws me every time. Nicole Kidman, Lenny Kravitz, what a time.”
“Lenny Kravitz dated Nicole Kidman… what?!?” said a third.
Another posted: “Still can’t believe Lenny Kravitz once dated Nicole Kidman. Soooo random.”
Whilst the pair called time on their romance, Kidman went on to date and marry singer Keith Urban in 2006 and the couple are still together now.
For Kravitz, his love life has read like a Hollywood elite as he’s had links to stars such as Kylie Minogue, Vanessa Paradis and Adrianna Lima.
Earlier this year, it’s thought that Kravitz might have been romantically linked to Ellie Goulding, after the pair were seen leaving an Oscars party together and following her split from husband, Caspar Jopling.
