Director David Lynch has passed away aged 78, his family have confirmed in a social media post.
The director was most known for films like Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, as well as the critically acclaimed Twin Peaks TV series.
In a Facebook post, his family wrote: “It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch. We would appreciate some privacy at this time.
“There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole. But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole’.
“It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way,”
The director’s last feature film was way back in 2006 when he did Inland Empire, before going on to direct a number of music videos.

The director revealed in 2024 that he had been diagnosed with emphysema and in a rather candid interview last year in August, he revealed that he could only conduct his work remotely due to his health issues.
He explained that the lung condition caused shortness of breath due to damage to the air sacs in the lungs.
The condition is caused mainly by long-term exposure to airborne irritants, including smoking tobacco or marijuana, air pollution, or chemical fumes and dust.
For Lynch, he said his illness came as a result of ‘smoking for so long’, as he explained: “Smoking was something that I absolutely loved, but in the end, it bit me.”
“It was part of the art life for me: the tobacco and the smell of it, and lighting things and smoking and going back and sitting back and having a smoke and looking at your work, or thinking about things; nothing like it in this world is so beautiful,” Lynch continued.

Naomi Pomeroy has died at the age of 49.
Pomeory was best known for starring on reality TV show Top Chef Masters. The late professional chef featured on the third season of Bravo series and was also a contestant on Iron Chef in 2010.
Amazingly, Pomeroy had no culinary training and is said to have learnt the trade by other food-industry professionals.

Prior to her TV appearances, she’d opened her first restaurant in Portland, Oregon.
Pomeroy has now died in tragic circumstances. She lost her life on Saturday, July 13, in a tubing accident.
The 49-year-old was floating down the Willamette river with her husband and a friend when they hit a submerged branch, The New York Times reports.
The trio were then thrown into the river’s fast-moving waters, and while the other two were able to make it to shore, the professional chef didn’t survive.
Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BSCO) haven’t been able to locate her underwater as a result of strong currents and debris in the river.

BSCO said in a statement yesterday (July 16), as per Entertainment Weekly: “An investigation by BCSO determined three adults recreating on tubes and a paddle board (two tubes were secured together and the paddle board was attached to Naomi), became entangled on an exposed snag in the water.
“One of the adults, Naomi, was pulled under the water and unable to free herself due to the paddleboard leash.”
As of yesterday (Tuesday 16) they were yet to retrieve the TV star’s body from the water and are continuing to search for her.
Deputies have so far used ‘all available tools, including sonar, underwater cameras, and drones, but were unable to locate any signs of Naomi in the area due to heavy debris in the water’ to no avail.

Elsewhere Congressman Earl Blumenauer said: “What a loss. Naomi was not just a fabulous chef and entrepreneur, but an amazing human being.
“Her impact went far beyond Portland, helping establish our leadership and reputation for food excellence. She will be greatly missed.”
According to KGW8, Pomeroy was in the midst of opening new restaurant next door to her custard shop at the time of her death.

A princess from Dubai has announced that she intends to divorce her husband in a scathing post online.
Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum took to her Instagram page to announce that she wants to divorce her husband.
Sheikha Mahra and her husband, Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, married in April 2023 and have since welcomed a daughter.
But the romance appears to be on the rocks just one year on as Sheikha Mahra took to social media to announce she wanted a divorce.

In the post she alluded to ‘other companions’ her husband was ‘occupied with’, and announced her desire to end the marriage.
She wrote: “Dear Husband, As you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce.
“I divorce you, I divorce you, and I Divorce You. Take care. Your ex-wife.”
The princess, who is the daughter of Dubai ruler and United Arab Emirates Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, had previously gotten people talking when she posted a picture of herself and her daughter with the caption ‘just the two of us’.

In her post, Sheikha Mahra also referenced an old Islamic tradition called ‘triple talaq’, which is no longer recognised in the UAE.
In triple talaq, a man can immediately divorce his wife by verbally announcing his intent three times, though the practice was not open to women.
The practice has been banned in many Muslim countries, including the UAE, and the pair will now have to move to the courts to formally proceed with the divorce.
Nonetheless, the princess’ referencing the tradition could have been a way to make her intent and her feelings clear.
Some people initially speculated that the princess’ account was hacked, however, there has not been any indication of this since the post went up.

Neither family has made any public comment on the announcement as of yet, but both Sheikha Mahra and Sheikh Mana have unfollowed each other on Instagram and deleted their wedding photos from their respective profiles, according to a report from the Khaleej Times.
Many people went into the comments to share their well wishes.
One wrote: “I think many people aren’t seeing the value of her saying it three times but it adds power to her statement. It means she is 1000000% done.”
Another said: “Every woman should know her self worth.”
A third wrote: “Your happiness is not negotiable.”
UNILAD has reached out to the United Arab Emirates embassy in London and the Government of Dubai media office for comment.
